Another Tesla Screw-up? (Three-position dynamic LED Turning Light)

It may have been covered in the breadth of this thread, but, are the 'trim' white lights on the fog lights tied to the white lights above the headlights always/sometimes?

I just noticed them on my loaner when it unlocked and hadn't noticed them ever coming on on my new X, and wonder if that's something else that is broken.

Yes :).

The L-shaped lights on the lower fog/turning light assembly usually mimic the state of the DRLs (what Tesla calls the “Signature Lights” on the MX) — exception: see video below on the Xmas easter egg which I have not had the guts to run myself since it is known to screw up the mirrors and I have enough software bugs as it is. There may be a lights setting that controls this link so maybe your X is fine in this regard, although dead otherwise. Also what is cool is the lower L trim lights change color from white to yellow to function as turn signals. On the S, they are always the same color and the car “winks” (dims) the DRL on that side to blink the turn signal in the headlight assembly. I guess they are both pretty elegant sequences when you see them live.

Cool, thanks! I didn't see any DRL setting (per se) even though it's in the manual or anything that could control the 'lower eyebrows' :D except Fog and Rear Fog (which, as far I'm aware, USA cars don't even have (rear, that is)....).

I guess USA cars have DRLs on by default now? And I think I need my GF to do some control-turning while I see what the car does when, when I get it back.

Thanks!

We have Rear Fogs, and although my galactic coordinates may indicate otherwise, am usually in US, and from our car and the loaners I’ve had, they are not tied to PUP. I asked Tesla what they lit up and nobody had a clue, so I did the test myself with spouse. I won’t tell you the answer so you can have the fun of discovering this yourself with your GF.

Yeah.... thanks! :D I turned them on, and can't see *anything* lit up, at least with the garage door shut and the car in Park. Hm....

Now that I know they *exist*, I'll check further. Where would we all be without TMC? :p

Edit: Found them! I'll leave the surprise for others, also.....

8/17 order, 9/30 delivery. non pup
sent an email to very helpful sales advisor. he confirmed i was supposed to have the adaptive lights and they would take care of it. soon thereafter sc emailed me and confirmed they had ordered the headlights. mentioned that they had received a recent email to this effect and that someone had made a mistake

I was going to post in the Model S Delivery thread and ask about this from new owners. Can Tesla STILL be delivering new cars without adaptive headlights? If so, does that mean they don't intend to address it and no retrofit kit is forthcoming for us, as we've been told?

I helped my dad take delivery of his NON-PUP Model X on Tuesday. Granted, it was just over a week after the first delivery attempt (Oct 14) where we noticed some issues that the service center addressed prior to actually taking delivery. In the intervening week I came across this thread and pointed out the wrong headlights to the DS. She looked into it and said Tesla has the VINs of those affected in some kind of database and that they would be reaching out to us when the retrofits were ready to be released.

It's good to hear they are still acknowledging it, but it appears to be low priority for them. The fact that they are STILL delivering vehicles without this option is a little disturbing...

Update.

I GOT THE ADAPTIVE LIGHTS INSTALLED TODAY!!! This was unexpected as I took the car in to fix an issue with the driver side door panel and diagnose the computer systems to see why OAT updates were failing about 50% of the time. They just happen to have the lights got those installed.

I'm still waiting for the engineering team to change the options on my car in their system to have the adaptive lights, then I can get an update to enable the feature. Otherwise, the install seems to have been done well. No noticeable damage to the fenders, hood, or bumper. And the PPF looks ok as well. I just need to get the headlight film reinstalled.

Took delivery of a non PUP 9/17 build Model S 90D late last week - adaptive headlights are missing. I asked the advisor on the phone about it when ordering it, and he said the car would have them. I then checked with my delivery specialist if it had them when picking up and he said yes... now reading through this thread, and looking at the example pictures of the settings as well as the lights, it turns out I don't. Have a service appointment next week for an unrelated issue and will ask them then.

I never paid attention to either of my Tesla’s but they are both premium upgrades. On other high end cars I own they have separate adaptive headlights (dim for oncoming cars and steer through corners) and then separate cornering lights that aluminate when the wheel is turned past a certain amount or blinker applied.

Update.

I've got the latest latest firmware and the adaptive light setting added to my car. Sadly the lights still don't work. The SC spent all afternoon yesterday and couldn't figure it out. It's back with Tesla Engineering to chime in.

Can someone with the latest software (2017.44) please post where the AFS is in settings? Looking at pictures, I think I have Adaptive Headlights, but don’t see the setting in the car to turn on / off. Have non-PUP X delivered yesterday.

Settings -> Vehicle -> it will be to the right of "Headlights on Park"

If you have the right lights but no setting, then you need to do the following:

1. Have Tesla Engineering (just call customer support) enable the "curved lighting" option in your vehicle profile in their database

2. They will then push an OTA (not a firmware patch) to your car which will enable the setting

3. Take your car to the local SC and have them run a tool box body controller update

Then you will have working adaptive lights.
