Any success with applying referral code?

Now that Model Y is eligible for referral, has anyone successfully managed to get it applied on an existing order?

I requested a referral to be applied several months ago, before it was eligible, by emailing referral program, and as expected was told no.
 
I have a paid for, but not yet delivered MY. I asked last week to have a referral code added to my order and was told that the MY wasn't yet eligible. Did something recently change? I'd love to get some free Super Charger miles.

Orders of a new or leased Model S, Model X, Model 3, or Model Y must be placed through an active referral link on or after October 1, 2019 to be eligible for related benefits. Awards will be provided to eligible customers after delivery. Orders of Cybertruck and used Tesla vehicles are not eligible.
 
Just chatted with them and they said they cannot apply the referral code to an already placed order and I would need to submit another order using the referral link and then cancel my original order. So by doing this I would lose $100 and back of the line... (or well I guess we don't know maybe front of the line in some cases o_O:D)

I'm going to see if they'll let me apply a referral code... I lose very little by trying and maybe could gain just a little...

Do the math. What would you get besides a chance in the draws they have for another car, 1000 super charger miles for free?

MY battery is what, 75 KWhr? And assume that equates to maximum range of 316 miles. So 1000 SC miles / 316 = 3.16 fill ups, x 75 KWhr per fill up = 237 kWhr for free. Current SC costs vary, assume $0.28/KWhr so that equates to a value of $66.46

So your $100 loss is for you and somebody else to gain $66.46 each, if I did the math correctly.

I concur that it makes no sense to cancel for it. Personally, i'be fine if they just gave my friend a chance - who was a huge influence for me getting a Tesla - to actually get a reward.

Buy your friend a nice bottle of whiskey/bourbon/scotch/whatever or some really good wine. Or perhaps take them out for a nice dinner, once restaurants are open again. Sometimes those kind of things are appreciated much more than the alternative...
 
How can you see if its been successfully applied or not? I called my SA and she said she was able to add it.

UPDATE: My friend was able to confirm he sees my order on his count now.

I've contacted the support person that has been working with me for a while getting the order ready. Hopefully he will be able to add the referral.
My update: he just replied that he cannot add it to old orders :(

I asked my delivery advisor if she could add the person who referred me and got me looking at a Tesla to begin with and was told no.

Wasn’t expecting a positive answer, as, frankly, my advisor hasn’t really been that friendly or accommodating. I also get that adding the Y to the referral program is intended to generate net new orders starting today. But I figured I’d ask since it really was a referral that got me to this point, where I’m waiting for a Model Y order.
 
Just call a different person. it’s worth a shot. I would also try emailing this address. [email protected]
Emailed them today. They responded quickly saying they will not do it. I think folks may have better luck with local SAs. The folks at the referral address will go 'by the book'.

Referral Program
 
So yesterday I decided to just send a text to my delivery advisor who I have been communicating with.

Here is the text I sent: "I just saw that Model Y’s are now available for referrals. Do you know if you are able to add someone to my order? I really wanted to thank the guy who showed me his model 3 which convinced me to order a model Y."

I then sent his referral code and I also brought up I see my VIN in source code just to see what the response would be. Well today I got the following response back via text:
"Added referral code for your friend. it will apply after you take delivery."

So hey thanks to those that suggested just asking. Definitely think talking to the delivery advisor is the way to go. Mine has been great and very responsive. They also confirmed that VIN in my source code is accurate and the car is still in California. So once it is shipped things should start updating for me.
