Anyone switching to a Rivian R1T after watching reviews?

Two otherwise good cars which, arguably, flopped because their front ends just looked too weird for the age.
You admittedly said "arguably", but the Tucker probably would have been killed off (somewhat underhandedly by competitors) regardless of looks, which I don't think were that weird for the time.

Your point stands, however...

I am not in the market for a truck, but for those that are, I will say one thing in Rivian’s favour: they are actually producing their truck for customers. There are a lot of announcements and plans for electric vehicles these days, but you have to prefer something that is actually being built over ‘vapour-ware’. Tesla has been in the lead on that front over the past years, but are now handing over the advantage, for trucks anyway, to Rivian and Ford. There is a question about how fast Rivian and Ford will scale up mass production of their trucks, so Tesla might regain some ground once their CT is actually released, but certainly Tesla is going to have to come from behind in this important segment of the market.
I agree that they are indeed further along, and I'm hopeful they will be able to bridge the gap to mass production and long-term viability.

However according to this, they are going to shift focus away from consumer truck manufacture to Amazon's delivery vans for the immediate future:

Rivian’s Focus Is Amazon Delivery Vans, Not Trucks or SUVs: Report

Interesting that Blue Origin's NS-18 flight crew was escorted to the launch pad using two Rivian trucks. Clearly product placement, likely inspired by SpaceX pointedly using Tesla X to transport their astronauts, with the observation that Amazon is a backer of Rivian.

The truck looks good, but I'm going to wait for the CT because I don't want to have a traditional pickup style, they're too expensive, won't have as much range or the charging network, and don't have the cover over the bed, which will allow me to use the truck as a minivan/RV replacement.

But in the overall scheme of things, it's good to have more EVs than less. This seems like more of a competitor to the FORD than to the Tesla.
You could be waiting a looooong time for a CT.

Exciting times ahead!!

To me, one thing that may put Ford in the lead for first time EV buyers is their vast established dealer network. Until you realize just how reliable EV's are.. the dealer support network may be a big factor in your buying decision.

Here is my dealer visit log from past and current EV's:

2012 Plug-in-Prius: never at dealership
2014 Volt: never at dealership
2017 Bolt: never at dealership
2021 Model Y: never at dealership
2021 Model 3: never at dealership
When you try to take a Tesla in for service, that’s when you realize maybe Fords dealership network is way better.

I have a res in for an R1T, as well as the CT (According to the tracker I'm in the first 80K). I had a thought the other night. R1T utilizes a 135KWH battery pack to get around 316 miles. CT Dual motor was billed at 300+ Miles of range. Assuming CT will be at least 6000 lbs (the Rivian is around that number) and battery design is similar... the CT will need at least a 135KW battery... If the hype is to be believed and its scalable 4680 batteries can reduce that size to go the same distance the CT will only require roughly a 115KWH Battery pack.

If Tesla can pull this off, by keeping the preorder price in line with original projections, it will be very difficult for me to end up taking delivery of my Rivian given the almost $18K difference in price. Although, the Rivian will fit in my garage, CT... Not so much

The only thing that would require less battery capacity to go the same distance would be a better Cx and/or drivetrain efficiency. The CT design seems to have been optimized for a lower Cx, so who knows?

Supposedly Launch edition reservations (not all of them) are being contacted and expecting delivery dates in November. My preorder says that delivery's of "non launch edition" vehicles will start in January of 2022. Either way, I don't anticipate seeing an updated delivery status till at least 2023. Honestly, kind of hoping for end of 2023.
