You shouldn't need to use the card. Phone key works via Bluetooth. The app issue is with Tesla's servers and only affects app functions that need Internet access (remote climate, remote unlock, etc.).

You phone key operates over Bluetooth. It doesn’t use internet access so there’s no impact on this function when Tesla server goes down. Just don’t close or log out of your app because you would need to server to log back in again.

You of course know you don’t need the app connected to Tesla servers to drive the M3

I just confirmed my M3 is drivable with no key card in sight. But it was hot in the car so I gave up.

That’s what the key card in your wallet is for. Take it out of your wallet, tap the spot for it on the pillar between the driver and passenger windows to unlock, tap it on the center console to drive.

This is what happened to me yesterday. With all the Android app issues I thought it was my phone that was having issues. Force close the app, no improvement. Clear app cache, no improvement. Clear app data (effectively logging me out), no improvement. Then couldn't log back in, thought I was putting in the password wrong, password reset. The reset email was massively delayed and then I saw all the news on it, but by that point my phone key was toast until logging back in. I had my key card in my wallet so got in fine. But really really annoying.

I got it today. Maybe the Tesla site is overwhelmed with Model 3 inquiries since the Standard Battery became available for order. Same message from my Model S.
