Several points: We were VERY surprised that CarMax offered $17k for our 2010 Prius with 36K miles. If you use CarMax as part of Tesla's trade-in, your sales tax will drop to the amount you actually paid, rather than the gross purchase price.

I'm very open to hosting another meet up, but know that REM and Kisdude have also offered. Okay somebody, come up with a time and date!

I'm fairly certain that it is the Alternative Fuel license plate rather than the type of car that allows the use of the HOV lane in Arizona, but would be very amused if you would try to convince the Highway Patrol of your progressive logic.
I'm just itching for a reason to drive "Tess" up from Tucson, so keep me posted. Would prefer mid-to-late-day if that's an option, so I can return to Tucson at a reasonable hour.

Meet, Greet & Drink (moderately!) Saturday, February 9 - Scottsdale

Okay . . . lets do another Meet, Greet, and Drink (moderately!) at our home in North Scottsdale, February 9 at 2:00. PM me and I'll send directions and a map. Be sure to bring your wife, significant other, Tesla friends, Model S/Roadster, and plenty of questions/answers regarding our favorite brand of car. Tesla owners, rez holders, and interested parties are welcome, however . . .
Leaf owners will be treated with sympathy - we understand that you sometimes become stuck on bubble gum on the pavement at intersections.
Volt drivers will be treated with honor because you NEVER get speeding tickets.
Fisker Karma owners will be viewed with suspicion because you appear to be Model S wannabes who obviously picked the wrong car.

Out-of-towners can plug in, but we've just got one NEMA 14-50!

I have a couple logistical questions for my fellow AZ Tesla Heads:

1) How long did you wait to receive delivery after payment in full?

2) How long did it take AZ DOT to issue you a cloud plate? If you personalized, did they issue one of these initially, or did you have to receive a general issue first?

Many thanks! I'm paid in full as of Friday, and I can't wait to experience the Tesla ownership grin.

Can only answer (1) as I'm only in Arizona half time and register in Calif. As to (1) the time was almost exactly 15 minutes. I picked it up at the factory, and presented the check just prior to the orientation.

The drive from the factory to AZ is very doable.

I think that I got my car about 10-14 days after payment. I got my cloud plate immediately upon registration of the car at the DMV. While I was there, I applied for a personalized cloud plate which arrived about 2 weeks later.

Thanks for the information!
I'm glad to know the cloud plate will be immediately available. My Prius sold the day after I posted it for sale and now I'm renting a Chevy, thus no HOV lane for the first time since 2008.

Monsoon (p<1000) and I have both paid in full. Neither of us will be very happy if we spend another weekend without our vehicles. Poor Tesla communication plus unfortunate AZ laws has made our interminable wait even longer.

I have a couple questions for those who have taken delivery in AZ. Obviously, we can only do home delivery in AZ:

1. How was the Model S delivered to your home? by an 18-wheeler, or a small u-haul trailer?
2. Did someone from Tesla show up later to go over the car? This is especially important to me, as I want someone to come over and inspect the vehicle, in case there are some defects.

Thanks!

It was delivered from the transit center in Maricopa on a covered trailer hauled by an oversized pickup truck. Our delivery specialist met with us later in the day. Chris, the DS, is often able to accompany the car, but I was part of the end-of-year push to delivery cars in December.

@MarkR
$7,500 tax credit you get this year... Sadly, I have to wait until 2014 to claim that deducion.

I'm not really bitter, just envious. Still happy for all prior deliveries. There is also a huge benefit to having others out there first and sharing their experiences.

Okay Anthony . . . I get the idea that you are bitter 7,500 times because I got a $7500 tax credit for 2012, but it cost me an extra $10,000 for the 85kW battery upgrade in order to get the rebate in 2012 rather than 2013. I'm not an economist, but the cost difference wasn't exactly in my favor. If you're still bitter, I'll be happy to buy you a drink . . . maybe two. BTW, I do think that early adopters should have received their cars in reservation order and it was bogus to prioritize the 85kW battery for early delivery.

Well, it looks likely that Anthony and I will have our vehicles this weekend. I have a feeling all bitterness will evaporate once we see the truck rumbling down our streets.

Side note, I just put $35 of gas into my Chevy rental. Hopefully one last "top-off the tank" trip before returning the car and I'll be free of OPEC.

EDIT: I just found out that something changed and my new ETA is Feb 6, outside the delivery window I was given less than two weeks ago.

I wonder if this is because Tesla is trying to 'pool' more cars to be delivered to AZ? They received my payment today, so my car could be on the same batch that goes out on Feb 6.
John: It is my impression that delivery is more complicated than it may appear - yes,, cars are pooled for transport, but TM outsources the logistics to UPS. Once the cars leave Fremont, they go to transit centers where they may be shipped with other high-end cars for delivery around the country. I think my car sat in LA for a few days and again in Mariopa for additional days and know that other brands at the transit locations included Mclaren, Bentley, Jag, etc. Tesla's ability to figure out where each car is seems limited and this was frustrating in the extreme. My car left the factory on Dec 20, but wasn't delivered until Dec 29.
