FWIW Tesla offered me $1500 over what CarMax didfor trade-in. Plus taxable amount is reduced by trade-in credit amount in WA.

With the inability to trade our car in when doing a "home delivery" and our nearest service center about three hours away, any difference between what Tesla would give us over CarMax is negligible. Our trade in is a 2005 Prius with over 160k in mountain driving. We expect it to trade at about $3000. Going to the service center would take a bit of coordination and an overnight stay.

Plus, if we trade to CarMax, we will have the Prius until our 3 is Xpel'd and tinted.

Makes sense.

Would you elaborate? The current window, for everyone ordering now, is Oct, Nov, Dec. Assuming no delays it's all good. This is a prime window for people to not screw with their orders. Once you do that, it's end of the line and no cuts are allowed, this is not middle school.
My understanding from my call was:

They run groups of cars pretty much identical. Ex. AWD, red, white interior, 19”.
If you change your design you could end up in a que for a configuration they just finished and have to wait for the next time they run that arrangement. And as she pointed out if they have a less popular configuration they may throw it in between long popular runs. Or they may be short on a item and not run let’s say 19” rims until stock is replenished.
So as much as they will try to keep your place in line you may actually make worse or better based on your changes. Tesla isn’t penalizing you it’s just production algorithms hard at work trying to be efficient.
Lastly the wild place jumpers you hear about are usually cars already in transport that need a new owner when deals go bad. The system finds the next in line with that configuration at the destination and they win the lottery.
So my philosophy, as of today, is buy the car you really want because you will be using it every day for a very long time. And you can know at worst there will be a $3750 premium
and a month or so wait for that decision. Your payment won’t change because it’s off your taxes. It will still suck and it’s real, but it’s quantifiable and I can make piece with the math.

And yes I’m waiting for my car, no news and my current car died 2 weeks ago. And I still decided to make a change yesterday anyway, knowing I was tempting fate. ฿^)

When does one specify delivery preference?

That used to happen to me when I was typing the wrong back door "edit-design" link using the lowercase rn and not the uppercase RN. Since I never had the edit button (all green checkmarks) I would use that link to try and see when my link disappeared. If I signed out and signed back in it went back to normal.

They will offer it at the time of scheduling if you are eligible.

Don’t know how they determine who qualifies.
I am 128 miles away from where the guy at the closer location said I'd be handled by. If, however, at home means no trade-in and 1/2 of that 5 hr round trip will be on AP, listening to tunes...there are worse things to do in one's retirement. thanks Willa!

Welp, I'm a little apprehensive to share that my edit button officially went away today and I was able to enter my loan information because I'm far from a Day 1 reservation holder. Sorry, guys! Still no call or email from my IDA.

Where are you taking delivery?

Congrats, I'm suppose to pick-up mine Monday (8/20), but as of yesterday, it had not arrived at the Bellevue, WA showroom/service center (NE 20th St)
My Delivery Advisor is out of the office until Tues, so I called the showroom. They said they don't have room to store cars arriving early, and it is scheduled to arrive today. Sale rep. said if I don't hear anything to come on in. I had explained to him that I live 4 hours from the delivery center and I need confirmation of my car's arrival prior to driving over. He did not offer to call and I told him I'd call back then since I wasn't accepting "no news" as confirmation it had arrived...poor customer service when they can't make a freakin phone call:mad:.

Update: Called this afternoon, and my car has arrived at Delivery Center this morning. Delivery Specialist indicated it will be ready for noon delivery as scheduled. They have group deliveries inside the building at this location, but only two are scheduled at my time slot. I ask if I would be allowed to inspect the car if I arrived early, and she said no, due to the scheduling of prior deliveries, and the cars being inside. I would need to sign and make payment, and then the DS would show and demo the car, etc. I said I wanted to inspect the car before signing and paying, and she said that was fine. Apparently other have been apprehensive about this aspect before.
