Or the spreadsheet retention rate is low and people just move on once they have their cars.

It's possible of course, but this AWD/ Performance -specific sheet is all data from this month, and we're now getting more date additions than brand new entries, so people are returning to update. I can't put a number on its accuracy, but indications are it's relatively representative.

Not sure if this has been confirmed here before but I am:

non-owner
5/2017 reservation
7/31/2018 configuration
non-P AWD MSM 19" sport wheels EAP, no FSD

I called today to just check on the process - no VIN yet. I've been back and forth on whether to switch to white, and so they sent me an email with this text:

Thank you for contacting Tesla Support. You have recently reached out to us to request a design change to your Model 3. Please provide the following information in order for us to process this request. Please be aware that any order modifications will delay your delivery date.

Reservation Number: (RN-)
  1. Options to add (if applicable):
  2. Options to remove (if applicable):
  3. Any additional detail:

So even though I haven't had a VIN assigned yet, they are saying up front that any modification WILL delay the delivery.
It definitely will. Set your expectations accordingly.

Has no one received a VIN for white interior + 19" sport wheels yet? Was thinking of switching last minute...

Here (none recorded):

Well the web site updated to have the check mark next to the VIN (same VIN I had in my MVPA on 8/16). But, the delivery specialist called today and pushed back the delivery date 6 days. Delayed in shipment somewhere... They (or the Dallas delivery center) will contact me next week to update me on the status. Tentative original date was 9/1 pickup, but they did say it would probably move a few days. Now it is 9/7, I hope the day holds. They did say it was possible the center could call me if it was ready for pickup earlier... Not holding my breath.

As somewhat of an aside... It leaves a bad taste that Tesla constantly springs delivery delays on customers (some very last minute) after setting a date. Yet if the customer needs just a little extra time because of travel etc., they make you surrender your VIN and go back in the queue. They won't even work with the customer to have someone else pick it up during the period Tesla insists on. WTF. I know their reason is no room on the lots, but come one. Zero flexibility on their part, while they require endless flexibility for their own delays. I know defenders say "if you don't like it, cancel your order and find a car you like better if you think the Tesla car and delivery experience is not worth it to you." I think that's a weak response. "We have a fantastic product everyone wants and already put down thousands of dollars to promise to buy, so when it comes to our providing even a minor accommodation, we say screw you, because we can." (Going back in the mystery queue as this tax credit expiration looms on the horizon is effectively saying screw you. Not an adequate policy.)

Precisely what I was told today as well.

They told me not to switch. You will go backwards. I talked to a supervisor, she said , don’t change anything if you can

I wouldn't... Your change has to be processed and there's no guarantee there batching aeros by the time the change is processed. Possible you move even further back in line.

Crazy. I switched to white interior on Friday and they said it would delay me by several weeks. Called in today and was told I have a VIN. Really want to switch to blue instead of silver but maybe I'll keep Aero's and just get aftermarket wheels. I feel like it would probably just delay me a few days again in reality, hopefully...

Talk to his IDA, mine was able to get an unofficial quote from the trade-in team. It also depends on how close you are to delivery. If more than 10 days they don't like to provide the quote on the website as it will change (if you owe on your trade-in).

Thanks. He was told about a week ago that delivery would probably take place on September 1st. Seems weird it is taking them so long to provide a trade in offer. As of today it’s been 15 days since he submitted the trade-in car pictures and report. His IDA said she would contact the trade in team last week to see what was going on, but as of now he still hasn’t heard back. He told me he would just accept the vroom.com offer in a couple days if he doesn’t hear anything back from Tesla by then.

He is in Michigan so the Model 3 will be shipped to his home from Cleveland. Tesla said if he traded in his car they would just pick it up at the same time. Sounded pretty convenient. Would the offer for the trade in be calculated by someone in California or Nevada, or does each store have their own trade-in specialist?

I called in again, and this time the rep told me that I have a Delivery Advisor assigned, but no VIN. He said it typically takes about 6 weeks from DA assignment to delivery, so that puts me well past my lease-end date for my current P90D :( He didn't have any estimates regarding the timeframe between DA assignment to VIN assignment though. (and wouldn't/couldn't let me know who my DA is)

Reservation: 03/31 but shows up as 04/01
Order : 06/27
Current Owner
Config : AWD, Red, black interior, EAP
Updates / contact from Tesla : Nothing!

Current owner with lease ending on OCT 1st, just got a call from a "Loyalty Team" saying that, if Im interested in getting a new S, X or P3, then they can arrange it so that I get my car asap and make for a smooth transition :).

I said No, I'll stick to my non-P awd, and he said his team does not know/do anything about that and it will come when it comes...

That's probably a conservative estimate. Troy's spreadsheet averages ~7 days from VIN to delivery in California. Much longer for midwest/east coasters who have to wait for the car to be shipped across the country

Turo!
That may be my route as well. I found a couple decent cars in my area for 30 a day. I figure I could use that weekdays as my wife and I usually are together in her car the weekends.
