Bad flat last night, this was their repair

I would think the plug should be flush with the tire, not the tread.

Pretty common fix from any tire shop.

Usually they trim the plug back, but not always. I’m not familiar enough to know what is correct.

Btw - looks like a good flat to me. Easily repairable. Of course no flat is ever good, but in the scope of flats this is on the better side.

normal - it will wear as the tire wears.

I've seen plugs like this many times before, it will wear flush to the thread. I wouldn't worry about it.

Using a plug is not the proper way. Tesla service only uses a patch from inside.

How can you tell it's a plug and not a plug/patch?

OP: Did they remove the tire from the rim and patch/plug it from the inside? That's the best way.

I took of rim and took to Americas tire, I didnt watch them while i waited but took them a 45 min or so to get back...normally i have always seen them take off, plus the rim and tires was wet etc after.

Looks like they used a mushroom patch with a stem I’ve seen these been used by 3rd party installers made in china crap they cause problems down the road

Normal, that's a patch done from the inside. They were supposed to cut it off flush with the surface of the bottom of the tread groove, but it's not a hazard or anything. You can snip the top off flush with some end-cutters if you'd like. The excess serves no function.

Slightly more rubber to the road = more grip every time the plug hits the pavement.

Nothing to worry about. I have done many plugs with home plug kits and the tires have been reliable till they needed replacement from worn tread.

I’ve done many home plugs. But one didn’t take well (I think because screw went in at a sharp angle). No one would touch it after that for a repair.

If you have the chance to go to an actual shop, i would (now) do that first.

I am pretty sure they patched it from the inside, properly.
