BlackVue DR750S-2Ch Install Question

Question on installing the Blackview 750 back camera. Is it possible to fish the wire out of the rubber conduit and the plastic trim without having to remove the trim. All videos are removing the plastic trim but I am extremely concerned in breaking the plastic brackets. Any information on installing the back camera without damaging the plastic trim would be greatly appreciated.
My instructions allow you to do it without removing the large piece of trim (which is the biggest pain). Most of the steps should be similar on X, as far as the back of the car is concerned.

I used a 10" long thick cable-tie that I had lying around and tied a string to it. I fished the string through the hard plastic piece. Once I had the string in there, I tied the blackvue cable to the other end and fished the cable through. It worked great and eliminated one really hard step.

Thank you vandacca for the great idea of using a cable-tie to fish a string. I am especially happy to hear that this can be done without the stress of removing the fragile cover. I now just have to wait until our temperature gets over -20 F.

I’m looking to do this install soon on a March 2018 build Model X. I had heard something about this trailer brake connector no longer existing? Is this still a good source of power for newer Model X’s?
Mine is a December 2017 build and I have it connected using the trailer brake connector. I don't believe that Tesla would delete the connector all together since all Model X's come standard with a towing package. If they don't provide you with the connector harness, you could always buy one for a few dollars.

Thanks! I don’t see a connector harness anywhere. Where should I look? If not, where to buy one?

Not sure if this has been mentioned, the newer builds have channel that snap into place instead of glued. Hopefully that makes installation easier for DIYer. I am going to try it with my 2018.

There’s a video on YouTube from Model 3 owner club showing it.

I taped mine into the most right plug (with red+black wire). You can buy the cable here:

Radar Mount RJ11 Mirror Wire Radar Detector Hardwire Power Cord for Escort (3005201IX) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078956R2S?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

What is that plug powering though? Since it’s plugged in, I’m not sure I’d want to simply unplug it and tap into that with the RJ11 connector you linked to.

I’ll need to call service tomorrow and figure out where this towing brake connector is under the carpet and why I couldn’t find the included pigtail connector. It’s listed in my manual.

Look at post #2 & #3 on this thread. There are pictures and part number for the harness. I would NOT cut any wires... but that's just me. Also you may have to look higher on the left hand side of the wheel well close to your left foot almost near the dash for the place to plug this pigtail in. That's where mine was ziptied. I don't have any pics to share ... sorry.
Also the harness should have been in your Frunck when you took delivery of your vehicle. If not, check your UMC bag or glove compartment. If you still don't find it, ask your DS for it any they should take care of it.

So my pigtail connector was in the tow hitch bag/box and was able to locate the 4-pin tow connector (it was shoved way back there). Problem is, I’m not getting 12V out of it. Car on or off. I checked the continuity of every fuse (both next to the 12v battery under the hood, and under the right side carpet of the driver side). So I’m a bit confused why this is. Am I somehow missing the 20A fuse for this tow connector circuit completely? Any advice on what I could be missing?

Are you sure the plug is connected tight? Did you measure the right wire? No way you should cut the factory wire when you can use the plug to get a hot 12v. If you need to install a brake controller, you can T off that plug.

Yeah. Definitely measuring the right wire. I’m an electrical engineer for a living :) I’ll be just using wire nuts and connect to the pigtail. No cutting of any wires. Gonna just bring it into service and see if they can explain why I’m not seeing 12V

Question: I know there isn't really a battery run dash cam but I would like to turn it on while I drive and take it out when not in the car. I go garage to garage. I assume the Go Pro or whatever else is my only option?
