Blank screen??

I just picked up my Model 3 last Friday and on Sunday morning when I got into the car, the display did not come on and I have to do a reboot with the scroll buttons. And this morning, the same thing happened. I can drive the car but the display was just blank until I reboot again.

Anyone else have seen this issue?

I have mine for a little over a week now, and I've had to perform the manual reboot at least three times so far. Two for the screen being black, and once for no audio from the radio. One time I was in Navigation just leaving a parking lot, and it stopped functioning and rebooted itself.

I have not encountered the blank screen anymore but the BT audio streaming seems to be quite finicky. It would connect and disconnect randomly. I guess we can always hope for the next software update, I am taking it as the result of being a beta user. :)

Another update. I called up Tesla and the support specialist told me to do a "special" reset by:

- Car is not plugged in
- Foot on brake
- Reset with the scroll buttons
- As soon as the Tesla logo appears. Let go of the buttons and brake

I did it and I have not seen the issue for a few days now but I also did a software update, so not sure which one fixed the problem and let's hope it is fixed.

I am a reservation holder standing inline. Just curious, you said you could still drive the car with the dead screen, but what about all the other features in the car? Are you able to access them through an app on your phone?

The car would drive but I cannot access any features which require the touchscreen. Functions on the iPhone APP is still okay and after you reboot the screen, it would work fine too.

I've also had the blank screen when getting into the car several times, and have used the scroll-wheel reset at least three times - though oddly one time the screen 'woke up' about 10 seconds after I got in, right as I was about to reboot again. The next time it was blank I let it sit for like 30 seconds before giving up and rebooting.

I haven't tried the 'special' reset with pressing the brake - I'll try that next time and see if it helps. FYI I've been on 10.5 since right after I took delivery.

thread is stale for five months, but I'm subscribing to it anyway, and here to report that my Sept '18 build is doing the blank screen thing more and more often. Owned it for one week, and the blank screen has happened at least once per day. Plus the music skips constantly...

I've had my 3 since the beginning of July. My display has gone black on me at least 5 times. Each time it sits there for about a minute then gives me the Tesla T and works just fine after that. Hasn't happened while driving yet thankfully. Local SC ordered me a new computer and they're installing it as soon as it comes in. The last time it happened I was able to grab a video of the issue which helped out.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I've had my car for exactly one week, and my screen has gone blank at least 2x per day, for a total of probably 20 times. And one time I really needed to move the car somewhat quickly (oops. Parking enforcement) and at that point (my first day of ownership!) I had no idea that the car would actually operate without the screen on, so I just sat there like a fool staring at my blank screen. Now I know that the car will move, but I sure don't like it!

I've also never been able to make contact with service. I scheduled online, but that's three weeks out. :sigh:

2018 Model 3, picked up 3/30/18, currently 12,100 miles, VIN 0092XX,

Center screen went black. No rebooting worked. Parked, foot on brake holding scroll buttons for a few minutes or same procedure while driving did not reboot. Headlights work, brake lights work, turn signals work, hazard lights work, car drives in a default mode of almost no regen.

I disconnected the 12 volt battery for 10 minutes and reconnected. No improvement.

App is dead. Deleted and put back on phone didn’t revive the app.

Only the key car works. Car will not charge with doors locked.

Car is now in Tesla Service. Brand new Model S 75D loaner.

Stay tuned..........

@gasmiser1 same problem. P3D VIN63,XXX delivered August 2018. Last week couldn’t wake the car with app. Center screen dead. No response to reboot. Could be driven. Has been at the service center for a week. Apparently engineering @ Fremont is reviewing the problem. No further information. Will check tomorrow and post when there is a resolution (Hopefully)
