Bluetooth problems on phone calls only

Hey Tesla devs creeping this forum ... we forigve you for breaking bluetooth ... and thanks for fixing it.

I hope you get old iPhones and weird Android configs added to your QA cycle to catch anything that might break this in the future!

Sorry guys. Whatever they did too fix it for you, broke it for me .
Pixel 3xl running Android pie 9
2017 Model S 75 - 2019.28.3.1

Whenever I take or make a call in the car it begins running through the Bluetooth but midway through the conversation the audio gets dropped and the car goes back to radio. I need to manually switch from the tesla audio back to the phone and back to the car to reinstate. But the process repeats. Rebooted car and phone. Paired and unpaired

I never even had a half second of audio working so your issue sounds a little bit different. Do you have another car to test the same phone with to eliminate one variable?

V10 and my new iPhone 11 Pro Max connects and works.. MOST of the time.

I thought the end user i was talking to was dropping but I think it is me as I get crackling like some posts here then nothing.
Yesterday, I was sitting in a parking lot on a call and 40 mins into an hour long call and audio just stopped. The call menu was still running on the left of the screen and on my phone it showed Tesla3 as an option but no audio. i had to switch to handset. Couldn't get it to come back.
Later that day, same scenario... If I disconnect bluetooth and reconnect it ends up working.

I've had no problems streaming SiriusXM for audio for an hour long drive so it seems to be the BT phone profile causing the issue.

anyone else with strange BT phone audio issues?

I took delivery of a Model 3 on March 30 of this year. At the time, it was running 2019.5.15, but within a day it had upgraded to 2019.8.4, then 2019.8.5, then 2019.12.1 a couple of days ago, and finally to 2019.12.1.1 today. Through all of this, I've had no problems with Bluetooth connections to my OnePlus 5t phone for media streaming; however, I have had problems with placing and receiving phone calls, and the problem has gotten worse with 2019.12.1 or 2019.12.1.1 (I'm not sure which).

I never tried making phone calls in the day or so I had 2019.5.15, but I did with 2019.8.x, with about a 50% success rate. Sometimes it would work fine, but other times I'd get very stuttery sound, as if the connection was cutting in and out about ten times per second. Initially, I was running Android 8.1 (LineageOS 15.1, to be precise); however, in part because I hoped to resolve this problem, I updated my phone to Android 9 (LineageOS 16) about two weeks ago. That update did not fix the problem, unfortunately, but it also did not make it any worse.

Since my car has updated to 2019.12.1 or 2019.12.1.1, though, the problem has gotten worse: Now, when I try to place a call, at best I'll hear a brief click, short series of clicks, or beep, and then I get silence. When receiving a call, the phone rings, I hear a ring tone over the Tesla's audio system, and the Tesla's screen shows an incoming call. I can answer the call via the Tesla's screen, but again, I get no audio. Worse than all of this, sometimes, on both incoming and outgoing calls, the Tesla's screen has gone completely blank a few times. This isn't guaranteed to happen, but it's happened at least four times to me today as I've been testing things.

Some of what I've tried, with no success:
  • Adjusting volume settings on both the car and the phone
  • De-pairing the phone and the car, rebooting both, and then re-pairing them
  • Updating the phone to the very latest LineageOS build
  • Using "developer mode" Android options to adjust every Bluetooth option I could find (AVRCP version, audio codec, audio sample rate, bits per sample, channel mode [stereo vs. mono], LDAC codec)
  • Testing with both incoming and outgoing calls
This same phone works fine with a Bluetooth headset. On my previous car (a 2017 Chevy Volt), I had few problems, although on about 5% of the calls, I did experience the stuttering audio problem that kicked up to 50% frequency with the Tesla before it stopped working altogether.

I've gone to Tesla's Web site and used their "contact us" link to file a bug report (although there was no "bug report" option, so it may not get routed correctly).

Does anybody here have any other ideas of what I could do, short of replacing my phone or installing another Android version? (I'm really trying to avoid the pain of setting everything up again!)

Had Tesla mobile service round for this problem. I was being a muppet. Once in the call the volume control on the steering wheel was turned right down. Its a seperate volume control when in a call. Hope this may help someone.

That isn't this problem.
And for the record there are 3 volumes, Media, Navigation and Phone. You adjust each one while active. Pretty much how all cars (and Smart Phones for that matter) are.

Op 5 and op 6t both having this same problem with 2019.36.2.1. no audio during phone calls only. Microphone doesn't work either. Pretty annoying.

I just tested, and my OnePlus 5t running LineageOS 16 (Android 9/Pie) is fine with Tesla 2019.36.2.1. Are you running the stock Android that came with your phones (OnePlus's OxygenOS), or something else? My original problem (I originated this thread) was under LineageOS, and I found that reverting to OxygenOS caused the problem to disappear. Tesla eventually fixed the problem, and it was working fine with both OxygenOS and LineageOS. If your problem is with OxygenOS, it's possible that it's now broken for OxygenOS but not LineageOS; or maybe the problem has returned for some phones but not the OnePlus 5t that I own. Note that the initial problem affected many LineageOS builds, but it wasn't unique to LineageOS; some other Android phones, and even some iPhones, were affected.

If you're familiar with flashing new firmware, you might consider switching from OxygenOS to LineageOS, or from whatever you're using back to OxygenOS; however, that's a pain, and there's no guarantee it'll work around the problem. If you're not already familiar with flashing non-stock firmware on a phone, be very cautious, since it can be a good way to "brick" a phone if you don't know what you're doing.

We're running the latest OxygenOS. I was able to fix the problem by rebooting the MCU - hold the two steering wheel buttons down for 5 seconds and it will reboot. Working fine now.

I’m having the same problem but the odd thing is that it worked for a few days of getting my new car and then it stopped working without any new update. I have an iPhone XS Max so it’s not that old and have only had my car for two weeks. I have rebooted and reset to factory and it’s still not working. After I try to answer a call it turns all sound off including the turn signals and once it came back on it was locked at max volume. When I make a call or answer a call there is no audio on either side. I don’t know how to fix this. I have service come if out to replace the seal on a rear light so I will ask them then.
