Buying inventory Model 3

Hey all, I’ve test driven the 3 a couple times over the last couple weeks and am finally about to pull the trigger next week. I got a buyer for my current car lined up and I’m ready to go! I’ve decided to purchase an inventory Model 3 on the lot to limit my time without a vehicle. The specialist said the configs I’m considering in their inventory came off the production line January this year. My question is, before committing, what things/issues should I look for during the inspection?

Paint quality is the major one. Make sure there are no major blemishes, or at least get them documented with a plan to correct them.

Congrats! You’re going to love it.

Right on, thanks! Can’t decide between black or white yet either... also I may register a vanity plate for it, “3 ELEVN”. Big 311 fan. Ties in nicely I think!

In my opinion, it's even better to get an inventory car since there shouldn't be any major surprises. The car's on the lot and you can at least inspect the exterior and interior pretty carefully before it goes in for the final pre-delivery detail.

Where are there lots with Inventory to purchase? I thought everything was online only.

There is a pre-delivery checklist you can get by doing a google search. Most of the issues with the Model 3 are around fit/finish of various things, scratches on exterior and interior surfaces and so on.

Don't take their word for when the vehicle was produced, there are certainly some older inventory floating around but with AWD that is less likely. You can find the production week of the car in the driver's side door jamb.

My biggest gripe with my car is that it has small noises in the cabin. Tesla was able to mitigate the worst offender but I still get irritated that such an expensive vehicle has more rattles than the eight year old Honda Fit we bought for our au pair to drive.

Unfortunately Tesla won't let you drive the car over rough surfaces before taking delivery so you'll be rolling the dice on that one.

I picked up my white long range M3 over the weekend and love it! The only cosmetic issue was the window trim in the rear passenger seat wasn’t fitted well, so they’re replacing that right now. Sitting in service waiting room having some coffee at the moment.
Well they fixed the trim and it looks great now! Unfortunately they messed up the pillar camera while doing this and now my autopilot is out of wack, headed back in tomorrow...
