Canadian Performance Deliveries

Did you call in or did you sign up online for the test drive?

Do you plan on referring yourself for the supercharging or do you needs someone referral code? *wink* wink* *nudge* *nudge* :D

I texted an appointment to my DS for the 3 test drive. The test drives are 30 mins long.

Thanks for the referral code offer, but if I order a P3D, my next prize is another set of wheels...would probably sell those for $5K which is equivalent to the BC CEV $5K rebate . I sold my last set of Onyx Turbines for $5500. Anyone who needs a code can use mine for the fifth referral reward and I’ll gladly give you the 2 tickets to the unveiling event.

Montreal Store told me a week and a half ago they should have Performance models for test drives in two weeks. That would mean next week though they emphasized the word should...

Electrek's Fred Lambert who lives in these parts wrote his performance model was in production and is expecting an early September delivery.

I'm a current owner with a P3D+ on order.

Reserved online on April 1st 2016
Ordered June 30th 2018
White on white
Performance package
EAP + FSD

Current status is preparing contract on my Tesla account page.

Called and they said no VIN or delivery specialist assigned.

Wouldn't you get better range with an RWD though?

I like to step on the accelerator to merge and not too concerned about range. The range for LR RWD and AWD is rated the same but Tesla never submitted any official EPA tests for the P3D or AWD and just used the LR RWD numbers for Dual Motor. The S and X dual motors has better range than RWD, so the 3 should be the same with torque sleep for dual motors.

There is official EPA efficiency data, and on the 3 AWD is worse for range, not better. Probably because the front motor is a less efficient AC induction, without the permanent magnets, so your power gets split between an efficient and inefficient motor.

They're only rated the same because Tesla voluntarily lowered the rating on the RWD to match the AWD.

Thanks for the info...I didn’t realize that Tesla used the AWD numbers and not the RWD.

The AWD Model S and X are more efficient than the RWD due to their use of dual induction motors.

From an insideEV comment:

"Having both front and rear wheels (and motors) doing regen will allow the Model 3 to do stronger regen, recapturing more of the energy. This is doubly true since most braking power is done by the front wheels, not much from the rear, in any 4-wheeled car… including the Model 3."

If the EPA efficiency data isn't taking this into consideration, real world efficiency may be closer.

Passing performance of the AWD M3 would be noticeably better than that of the RWD I would think.

That's what people assumed (including myself) that awd would have more range based off of model s and X. However, like taylortbb pointed out is that the 3 unlike the s and x uses two different types of motors. Rear is for range and the front is for performance.

It's difficult to search on my phone, but there is a thread here that talks about it. Along with offical epa numbers, etc.

Hmm...further reading tells me AWD regen is virtually identical to RWD regen and makes no appreciable difference in the amount of energy actually recovered. On the S I believe it's software limited to 60kW...you tend to want to stay a fair ways away from the traction limit of the tires. Though perhaps there are sweet spots in actual driving where AWD regen is slightly more efficient but I doubt it has a major impact on the EPA numbers. Maybe 1-2%?

Hey all. No action so far this week on P3D deliveries? We know Electrek's Fred Lambert (who lives up here as well) got confirmation his car was in production. Has no other Canadian P3D order moved to production. My order details are above. Still waiting!

I was at Oakville tesla today and asked if they were expecting any AWD or PAWD to be delivered soon....they had no concrete answers, but the salesperson I spoke to said the customer that was in there just before be had an AWD reservation/order and was just contacted by the DA and their car was probably 2 weeks out....so we should start seeing AWD in early sept

This is at Lawrence right now. From California though. Manufacturing plates.

No test drives sadly

Funny....this is the same car (same plate) that Lewis from Unbox Therapy put a video up on yesterday....when I saw it, I thought he had bought one on his own and gotten a delivery of a PAWD in Canada, but its the same press car shown here...

Actually my company (I work for IMAX) had unbox therapy here a few weeks ago to film them playing some video games on our big screen. Was pretty cool to meet them. I was going to offer to take him for a test drive when I got my AWD, but now that he's driven the PAWD (and he can easily afford one on his own) I probably wont be taken up on the offer :)

Here's the IMAX video in case anyone wants to take a break from wishing their model 3 was here already :)
