Charge-Up NJ rebate program Phase 2

Hi everyone,

I read through most of these posts. I'm still not sure where I stand and want to ask a question at the risk of being told "can't you read?" I find all of this incredibly confusing.

Here's my situation. I live in New Jersey. I placed an order for a Model 3 Long Range in June and took delivery on September 1 from a Tesla dealer in Paramus, NJ. Nothing was said to me about NJ Charge Up before, during or after the process. I knew nothing about the incentive. I found out about it online.

The program documentation appears to be conflicting in that it states you must "order, purchase or lease" in several places but I read here that the order must be made after July 1. (Ugh, what luck on my part if so.)

The dealer never submitted anything. A) Can I still get them to do that? B) Or, am I actually ineligible? C) Is this $5000 I lost by simply not waiting a couple of weeks to order?

Thanks.

-Ryan

You’re unfortunately ineligible because you ordered prior to the start of the program and the new funding. It sucks for sure. I wouldn’t have expected Tesla to inform you of the program because in June it wasn’t necessarily known when exactly the program would start. If you knew that this incentive might be happening either through these forums or another method you still would have been ineligible because of your order date. The only thing you could have done at that point would have been to cancel your order, lose the $100 order fee and then reordered after the start of the program. That might have been worth it financially but you most likely would have delayed in getting your car. there’s nothing you can do at this point. Enjoy your car and at least you didn’t pay sales tax since you live in NJ. I’m sorry it didn’t work out. It’s difficult to swallow. There may end up being a tax incentive/credit that might save you money next year when you file your taxes. Nothing is set in stone though. I hope this was a helpful response. I agree there are too many people who are rude and condescending in their responses. They must not get to assert themselves at work or home so they like to d-bags online for no reason. I’m in North Jersey. Let me know if you need any other advice or insight into your car. You can private message me if you’d like. I have a Model Y but it’s basically the same as yours. I’ve had mine a year.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it's painful.

If it’s makes you feel better, you didn’t lose out on $5000 but it would have been $2000 off since the LR is priced over $45k which would have qualified for the $2k. If you got the SR model and paid under $45k for the car would have lost out on $5k. Maybe that will ease your pain a little😢

And depending on options if your MSRP exceeds $55k before destination/doc then it would have been ineligible for any NJ state rebate.

NJBPU today announced Year Two of the popular Charge Up New Jersey Program, its electric vehicle (EV) incentive initiative, is expected to expend all funds ahead of schedule, moving New Jersey closer to Governor Murphy’s goal of 330,000 EVs by 2025. Due to such successful uptake, Year Two of the Charge Up Program will pause on September 15 at 9:00 p.m. ET to evaluate the possibility of additional funding with the goal of reopening the program prior to the next Fiscal Year

I'm surprised the incentive was so short-lived; all FY funds consumed in approx, 3-months?

Picked up my Y earlier this month and taking delivery of a 3 on Friday. I assume I’m good since I ordered back in August.

I hope they take into account all the people who ordered and are waiting for delivery. No way this filled up already on people who accepted delivery, and let’s face it, Tesla’s are the majority of this program.

I am one of those people, order in July but EDD is mid to late October. Model 3 SR+. I see the 5k discount on my order page but I am not 100% convinced I am in the clear. Tesla SA tells me one thing and the Charge UP energy people tell me something else. I wonder how it's going to shake out when my 3 arrives.

Just got this email from NJ

NJBPU today announced Year Two of the popular Charge Up New Jersey Program, its electric vehicle (EV) incentive initiative, is expected to expend all funds ahead of schedule, moving New Jersey closer to Governor Murphy’s goal of 330,000 EVs by 2025. Due to such successful uptake, Year Two of the Charge Up Program will pause on September 15 at 9:00 p.m. ET to evaluate the possibility of additional funding with the goal of reopening the program prior to the next Fiscal Year. In its first two years, the program has maxed out all committed funding to provide nearly 9,000 new EVs to New Jersey residents to date.

“New Jersey’s EV incentive program has been very successful,” said NJBPU President Joseph L. Fiordaliso. “There is clearly enthusiasm for electric vehicles so while the program is paused, we are evaluating all options with the hope of reopening before the next fiscal year. With New Jersey’s commitment to EV adoption and the build out of charging infrastructure, coupled with commitments from the Biden Administration, New Jersey is well on the way to achieving Governor Murphy’s EV goals.”

The program administrator will accept and review all applications from dealerships and showrooms with an eligible vehicle order, purchase, or lease date between July 6, 2021 and 9 p.m. ET September 15, 2021. Dealerships and showrooms will be required to complete the manual application process for all eligible orders by October 15, 2021 as part of the NJBPU’s evaluation process to reserve funding.

More information is included in the Press Release below.

Thank you for your interest in New Jersey’s clean energy future.

My delivery specialist just told me:

We're being told that as long as the order is placed before tomorrow and you take delivery by 9/30, you're all set.

Looks like the EoQ rush is especially important for us New Jerseyans.

hello, I ordered on 7/6 but the EDD is late Oct, Does that mean I would be disqualified?
I am on the same boat as you but order on 8/12.

NJ web site said:
Dealerships will have until October 15, 2021 to submit incentive applications for eligible vehicles. The cut-off date ensures that all eligible customers who are due an incentive have the opportunity to have their incentive reserved and then applied at the point-of-sale once the vehicle is delivered.

I now want to delay my delivery to 2022. I don't know if i still qualify if i delay or i should place another order tonight

I was supposed to pickup last week but got delayed bc of IDA. Can someone confirm as long as we take delivery before 9/30 5k will be deducted off the bill?
There is no mention of 9/30 deadline in the press release posted by @spokey above, unless I missed it. “Order by 9/15 and the dealer has to submit the paperwork by 10/15” is the gist of it.

9/30 sounds like a Tesla deadline rather than NJ ChargeUp

You are right, the email says:
review all applications from dealerships and showrooms with an eligible vehicle order, purchase, or lease date between July 6, 2021 and 9 p.m. ET September 15, 2021

So just an order works.

Things change so fast. I just got the email on 9/10 from the Charge Up staff that I posted here in this thread. Now this new press release today. So I guess I will contact the Tesla SA to see if they can complete the application process by Oct 15, even though my EDD is in November. It's crazy to think that I ordered on day 1 of Phase 2 and I might not get the incentive. The majority of the EVs qualifying for this program have to be Tesla Model Y and Model 3, right???
