It’s been a little crazy all day today so I didn’t have the opportunity to drive by Springfield, but maybe tomorrow.

I did however get to talk with my SA today for the first time. I never got the call from the guy who scheduled with me a few months ago, so I called in and found out who my SA is, haha. Nice guy and good chat. He indicated to me that between Springfield and Paramus NJ they anticipate having a large batch of VIN assignments within the next week, and at least in my case because I ordered early/ mid April I should be part of that batch. From that point looking at 1-2 weeks to get cross country with a delivery around early to mid June. Seems consistent with some other NJ folks here so I’m hopeful a VIN comes through soon!

I went to the Renton delivery/service center this morning (right outside Seattle, WA). There was only one Model Y that seemed to be waiting on the big parking lot (built 4/21). There were 4 more in the area where people take deliveries, and a customer was taking delivery of his model Y while I was there.

I asked a Tesla employee about my order status, and he pulled up his system and showed me his screen where it said that my car will be built on 5/22. He said I should get a VIN on 5/23, then between waiting for a truck, being delivered to the service center, inspection, and detail, I should take delivery around 5/30. He said buffer 2-3 days for delays if you don't want to be disappointed and you should have the car at the latest the week of May 31st.

He didn't mention any system-wide issue and based on how empty the parking lot was, I assume that deliveries are happening as soon as cars show up at the service center.

I ordered from Seattle on 4/7. MY silver/black, 5 seats, 20" induction, no tow, no FSD. The current estimate on the Tesla website is May 27 - June 16.

I think some of these Ys being delivered right now could be pulled in for a mandatory firmware update. The specialist I talked to made it seem like this firmware update and approval needed to be done at the SC and couldn't be OTA. Curious about how it affects Ys recently delivered.

Not a lot of clear and/or detailed info about the semiconductor shortage (like what controllers/chips were affected) and how Tesla specifically managed it, but this is what people are referencing I think: This Is Why Tesla Hasn't Been Affected By The Global Chip Shortage
If they’re changing chips, I wonder how performance is going to compare to Atom-based Ys.

I got similar information in my delivery to Westchester NY. Production by next week with delivery in early June.

Everyone seeing MYs piled up at Service Centers sounds like a better issue. I had a friend at Indy this week and he said their lot is still bare 😞
For the Indy folks, I stopped by Castleton today. The lot is full of Model Y's (didn't check bill dates or VINs since I had the wife and kids in the car). Talked to the order specialist who didn't have any information since I didn't have a VIN number assigned. They were also offloading another truck full of Y's while we were there. I'm assuming once the "glitch" is resolved we should be good to go. We shall see.

My order still shows 5-9 weeks. Been that way for awhile now.

Ordered April 1st - 2021 Model Y LR AWD Pearl White, Black interior, 5-seat, 19" wheels, Tow Hitch, no FSD.

Friend of mine who also order a Y around the same time as I did ( deployed with me and held his delivery) just did a pass by the tampa delivery center and their parking lot is full of Y's. The delivery manager at the center once again said to him that a lot of the Y's on the parking lot are awaiting to be assigned the VIN to customers and a glitch is causing this issue. Supposedly they are estimating that the update will occur at the start of the week. Also he managed to say to him that they are looking at doing deliveries directly to the customers homes to help speed up the delivery process once this issue is resolved.

So far multiple people reported the same thing on this thread.

It would be nice if we had a nice formal announcement about it and some free super charging miles. But I guess that will never happen lol

UPDATE:

Went by my Tesla (dealership?) today in Smithtown. My SA was right on the money. Model Y's for as far as the eye can see. All of them have a build date of 4/29-4/30. VIN's are all above +185000. They are all being held with no VIN assignments.

OK, now I want to drive by my DC - I'll have to risk not finding gas, lol.

Seriously, the lot was completely full of Y’s and 3’s. After seeing this for about two weeks, I finally stopped in today (as the phone calls weren’t successful) and was told they are getting them ready for delivery. Weird it’s taking 2+ weeks to do so. Didn’t get a direct answer as to why they are piling up though…

I can understand this. They have regular service job, scheduled appointments so I guess they can probably send only one technician to go over delivered to them Teslas to prepare for delivery to customers. Just guessing.

I stopped by the SC here in Austin today and there were a lot of new Tesla's filling up the lot with no temp plates. When I asked the representative there, he claimed they were "service" vehicles. I saw a midnight silver Model YP and imagined it being mine. =)
Might be speaking the truth. If I remember correctly, Tesla can’t even ship vehicles to Texas until they’re funded.
