dynamic pricing by Tesla on new existing inventory, dramatic difference from original window sticker

I recently took delivery of a leftover 2018 Model S100D demo with 650 miles, from existing inventory of a dealer about 400 miles away in a different state.

The virtual window sticker image on the Tesla website listed the features and pricing on the car as if it were ordered currently, not as it was originally ordered and priced (less the discount for being an older model year). BIG DIFFERENCE.

The only way I figured this out, and the exact features my car came with, was comparing with the actual window sticker inside the vehicle after delivery:
It was listed on the web with base price of $85,000 and AP for $3000 and cream interior for $1500 for total after discount of $83,000 including fees (with free delivery to my local dealer since <500 miles away).

However, the original window sticker, shows a base price of $96,500 with EAP for $5000 and cream premium interior for $3300 (plus sunroof, etc.) for a total of $109,500 including fees.
That just shows how prices have decreased over the past year or so and Tesla keeps their pricing on existing inventory dynamic.
Not only was my car priced $26,500 below original MSRP, but I got the "legacy" EAP I wanted but was not advertised as having.
The whole process is screwy, but worked out well for me.

Just FYI not to totally trust the features listed on virtual window sticker shown online when buying existing inventory.

Maybe with the announcement of the May S&X refresh they are quickly trying to get those cars moved along. Kind of wondering now if something more than front motor, a few miles and a new active suspension system might be coming along and they don't want "new" inventory left. I placed my order late April with a "May" delivery and have heard not one word about VIN / Production / Delivery since I placed the order. I am 100% okay with the refresh as stated in the blog but now I am wondering if there isn't more coming along with the May refresh?

And this is indeed a harsh lesson for those wanting unreasonable value for their used vehicles which were purchased at older higher prices (and for which they already took the tax rebate). With smart shopping, new or nearly new can be had at not much more than recent model year used.

prices have decreased, and now include more options standard including AP, cold weather, premium sound, etc.
can only get AP, not EAP, now have to pay $6000 for FSD to get the features that came with EAP
plus can no longer get the sunroof
why my car was repriced by Tesla at current pricing, a dramatic difference from original pricing just in late 2018

Were the lease numbers good?

First, this is awesome and congratulations!
I am currently shopping for a tesla and was told about a discount on a 2018 with colors I liked. They said it was at service but didn't know why. I have a request in to see what's up with the car (is there is any issues or what)
My question to you is, how did you see the info on the car? Was this just in the user inventor on tesla.com? How long did it take to get the car? Is your $2500 to hold the car transferable if you see the car and is not as stated? I will absolutely ask tesla this when I talk to them again, just wondering your experience.

I found the car online at Tesla, under NEW inventory. Under details, it showed the mileage and clearly listed the >$11k discount ("price adjustment") from the virtual window sticker total, but in reality ended up being a discount of $26.5K from the actual original window sticker total. Plus had the added benefit of EAP and sunroof, both no longer available. And this was just before they announced the new 370 mile range, so the discounts on existing inventory, especially any leftover 2018's and 75D's but also 335 mile 100D's is even greater now.

Ha, yeah, I paid way more than that for an identical car in December!

That’s odd. I just took delivery of an inventory P100D and my. Virtual sticker was identical to the original window sticker. I got a pretty big discount too. These heavy discounts are killing resale values.... I wouldn’t be too happy if I bought this car 6 months ago....

What was your discount? I’m wondering how much more they’re doing now versus what I got in December

Looks like similar deals are still available on inventory cars. Here's a 100D with AP and premium interior for 78k

70k for a leftover 2018 75D (66k after rebates) also looks pretty tempting. This one in particular is interesting since it has the nla textile seats and sunroof. Also comes w/ the nicer looking dark ash (instead of the figured ash that is now bundled with black interiors)

Another "unicorn" (2019 75D with carbon fiber decor!)

Makes some of the prices they are charging for older used cars seem too high. For example, how does 62k for a 2017 75D make any sense:

taking delivery of a 2019 75D for $67,700 (including dest) after $13,500 in discounts, Black on Black. with the used around 55K to 60K for 13K+ miles and about $7,250 in credits so about 60K net before tax seemed like a great deal, also manuf date is Jan 16, 2019 so right around the time Musk said no more 75D, so this had to be one of the last to be produced.

like yours mine says autopilot HW, but the delivery specialist showed it actually had enhanced autopliot on the back page on her computer. No idea, but will see when I get the car sometime next week.
also I agree the process is quite screwy, as the car was shipped to another state even though i selected the local center online, but it looks like after some logistical issues (as Tesla delivery person described it) I will get it next week. Not the newer longer range (285 vs. mine at 259) or faster charging battery for about 9K more, but for the diff of 26 miles, 9K didnt quite seem worth it

With the Raven update, it seems they're selling the pre-update ones at firesale prices to clear them out (and ensure nobody feels 'cheated' out of the new tech, the discount makes up for it). I imagine once they're all gone, the prices will go back to what you see on the website.
