Horrible Experience at Highland Park Model X

Me and my wife were in the market for a Model X. We visited the Highland Park showroom last Saturday and we were treated terribly. For starters the showroom has a single model x, the showroom is dirty and unorganized. We literally stood there for 20 minutes looking at the showroom car before I had to go get someone to help us. You know what that's ok but the part that really pissed me off was that EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT WORKS THEIR IS SO ARROGANT they did not want to help me, and when I inquired about a home test drive because I have limited time they told me that home test drives were only for "serious buyers" only. At that point me and my wife were fuming. Needless to say we left and went too Tesla Oakbrook. They were so genuine and so kind, no snottiness or anything, very helpful and cheerful, they gladly set up a home test drive and the day after the test drive we placed an order for a pearl white MX 100D. I also made sure delivery was not at Highland Park. I feel Highland Park definitely needs a renovation and new training for their staff. I don't expect this type of arrogance when buying a 25k Prius much less a 125k tesla. The employees should not judge you based on the clothes that we were wearing or anything of that sort. These employees almost made us not want to purchase our dream car with the company we supported since the beginning. If not for David at Tesla Oakbrook we would be at Bentley right now finalizing a lease for a new bentayga instead of a model x. Have you guys ever had an bad experience with Tesla. How would you have reacted when a Tesla employee said the you weren't a "serious buyer".

I don’t know the neighborhoods, sorry, is this some classic thing in the two areas? Or something special to Tesla? I mean, are we talking Beverly Hills sort of BS or something?

I’ve heard of some of the Chicago areas but didn’t think they had turned into that sort of elitism.

Friend of mine way back went into a BMW dealer and was treated the same way (of course, she was a young women at the time, but they had no idea how much money she had or didn’t have!).

There should be an objective qualification screening rather than relying on subjective mood/attitude of a Product Specialist.

May be a prospective owner could go to the web and input those screening qualifications and get an instant feedback for a certification of serious buyer.
Yes, but no employee should tell clients that they basically cannot afford this car. I came to look at a car because I would like to purchase it not for you to tell me I'm not qualified to buy this car. Especially when I'm willing to drop a huge amount of money on a high end automobile. I don't car if I'm buying a Prius or Tesla but an employee should never tell me that they think I don't have enough money to buy this car.

And in any case, even if you can’t, perhaps you are doing research for a family member, or a friend. Or just want to look. Good grief.

But the question about overnight tests should have been handled a LOT better. Not in what sounded like a snooty British Rolls sales person sort of manner with a ‘if you have to ask you can’t afford it’ manner. (No offense to any reading this!)

i agree, this sux... :(

i was treated the same way because of my age, (have to be 25 in Ohio apparently), and when i asked them directly what if somebody under 25 wanted to drive one, they said they'd have to be a serious buyer...wow, i was 23. as soon as i was able to actually drive the car i bought one.

i thought that this was the whole point of tesla not being a "dealer", but it seems they've implemented some old fashioned "dealer" profiling techniques.

No excuse making here, but even with no commissions and the like, they are compensated somehow for sales. And psychologically they would gravitate to people that would tend to be more likely (in their opinion, right or wrong) to make a purchase.

Just sayin’. Unfortunately.

The thing was I was just asking for a regular test drive not an overnight one if it was an overnight then fine I'll give you some financial info so Tesla can make sure that I wasn't planning to steal the car.

i didn't make it easy for them visually either, as i'm literally a fat redneck and was driving a coal roller at the time... :D

and then how did you respond to show that you were a serious buyer?

businesses do well to identify and invest their time and other resources in actual likely customers rather than timewaster joyriders. it shouldn't be that hard to distinguish yourself from the timewasters.

I walked out and went to Tesla Oakbrook to do a test drive and to place an order. I didn't know how to really show we were serious I feel if I'm going to buy a car I don't need to open my bank app to show you how much money I have to do a test drive.

It's not the salesmen. It's the Manager. The manager must go, and the rest will fall in line. You don't treat any potential customer like this.

December 31, 2016, my wife and I were at a Porsche dealership prior to going to the Tesla showroom. The Porsche salesman was so nice, not one bit pushy, even when he knew we were going to Tesla afterwards. He even called to warn us of an impending snowstorm he had just heard on TV going over the grapevine (in Southern CA) as were were on our way to the Tesla LA showroom and to be careful. Man, I almost turned around and bought a Cayenne because of that class act. I didn't of course because Elon did his whole...buy it now or lose free supercharging forever. *shaking my head at Elon* But I love my Tesla, so it doesn't matter.

I walked into Tesla Highland Park about two weeks ago after reading the forums here about the Q3 deals, and I was actually greeted within two minutes of walking through the doors (definitely agree with you on the state of the showroom there).

I went on a nice test drive, when returning I asked the salesman some questions, and he didn't know the first thing about anything and had 100% of his information incorrect, from lease prices to lease terms, etc etc. I was ready to order/buy one on the spot, but was put off by the ignorance of the salesmen there.

Later that day, I found an insane deal on one through the forums here, and was happy to place my order for the inventory car via the rep out in New York that actually knew all his info and was a complete pleasure to work with.

A little apprehensive about having delivery out of there, however going to the downtown location is just too big of pain with traffic from where I am.

We made sure that we aren't gonna be taking delivery in Highland Park. I don't need an ignorant salesman ruining the day I take delivery of my dream car.
