How I'd have loved to take delivery directly from the factory and save those $$$. Sounds like I am subsidizing the rest of you. Socialism! :p

Since supercharging comes for free, I guess it still makes sense for people to fly here and drive back for a great cross country experience. Much like the European Delivery program.

Is that right? Delivery from the factory negates the $1200 fee?

It doesn't work that way because out-of-state buyers have to pay California sales tax. In the past, state legislators in California tried to get a sales tax exception for factory deliveries but none of that legislation was ever approved.

Do they give discounts off MSRP if one goes for financing? How much was yours if you dont mind asking

Tesla doesn't discount either way.

What I meant was that the advantage of leasing (lower monthly payments) gets amplified by the fact that you get to apply your entire discount upfront to a 36 month lease payment, as opposed to a 72 month loan payment. But in Tesla's case, the monthly lease payment doesn't look significantly lower than the monthly loan payment to justify the higher overall cost of leasing. This could be because they don't factor any discounts anyway.

The other advantage of leasing an expensive car is that you only pay sales tax on your lease payment (typically only 40% - 50% of the total value of the car). This could be significant for those of us who live in high sales tax states (0ver 9% for me), and one that doesn't allow a trade-in allowance towards the sales tax of a new car.

I crunched the numbers, and financing a Tesla already comes ahead of leasing at the end of 36 months in my case, with 100% of the sales tax already paid. The possibility of keeping it longer obviously brings the average cost further down. With free unlimited supercharging for life of ownership, it was a no brainer.

Now... all that could change if Elon announced a $20K price cut. But looking at how 2013 Model S's are still selling for $30K after all the price cuts, revisions, and battery ranges getting longer and longer, I think we have enough empirical data here to support the thesis.

Yes, thats what I am afraid of. I will work with the dealer to have it delivered there (2 miles from home) so that I can do a thorough delivery checklist and possible refuse pickup if there are issues. They did not ask me for a delivery preference yet, but not sure if they will find it more economical to deliver to my house directly from the factory and cut the stop at the dealership, since its only 20 miles from the factory. The dealerships have gone really light weight after they cut the staff there...

Since you are in the Valley, I would just go the Fremont delivery center. Then you can check it out thoroughly and reject it right there or have them fix minor things. They cleaned the car better for us, removed marks on the upholstery, etc. before we signed on the dotted (virtual) line.

Just got this from my Tesla Sunnyvale sales person: "No dealership delivery has to be home or Fremont delivery hub"

I opted for Fremont for the same reason.

I ordered it on 8/15. I was told I would receive the vin by the 22nd and the car would ship from CA on the 28th. Here it is the 27th and I still havent received the vin!!! This sucks.

My wife and I have been struggling to get by with 1 car. I sold my car first because I needed to financially but also because the website said "delivery within 3 weeks". Almost to week 2 and I am reading a lot of other posts from people saying they are on week 5 and 6 and still no VIN....

I can feel you but hold on... In a way this is best of both worlds.. If there is a fire sale or inventory sale, you get to buy that otherwise the line keeps you in what is right now.... Perhaps just get a monthly rental from enterprise and not worry about it. The $200, $300 would hardly be a dent in pocket... consider it as shipping cost that you were not charged for home delivery...

Very true. Although I looked at enterprise and its $250 a WEEK for an econobox.

Wow this is great news! I just received an email from my advisor saying that a car with my exact specifications just left the factory! Tomorrow is only week 2 for me!

I am super excited and I hope this is true!!!
