Importing to NZ from UK or Australia?

Hi,
Did a bit of searching around but could not find anything conclusive on this, so looking for a little guidance.

It seems as of right now (Sep 2016) the cash cost excluding taxes is way cheaper in UK than AU. A full specced P100D for example appears around 50K cheaper in UK vs AU. NZ$215K (NZ GST added, UK taxes removed) vs NZ$265K (NZ GST added, AU Taxes removed). Obviously excluding the shipping/delivery/rego costs.

Outside of having to wait a little longer are there any downsides to importing from UK vs AU as it looks like the UK is a no-brainer if you are prepared to wait a wee while?

I imported from AU. Didn't realise that the price on the web site included AU GST when first looking. So you need to take off all the listed taxes and then the AU GST (divide by 1.1).

You should be aware that you initially have to pay all those taxes which you get back after the car is on the boat.

Also you compliance testing in NZ before you can drive it, as well as rego etc.

Do you get back the AU LCT as well?

Have you tried looking at Hong Kong and Japan as the import path may be easier and cheaper for shipping?
