Production should take about a week. Transportation is a big unknown. If it goes by truck and one is available right away then it would just be a few days. My car entered production on Thursday, was done on the following Wednesday, and was ready for delivery in Virginia the following Tuesday, for 12 days total. On the other hand, if it goes by train and has to wait a while for the next one, transportation could take several weeks.
I'd contact your delivery specialist and see if he has an idea of just how long it'll take for yours. He ought to know how it'll come and about how long that will take.

Normally they ship from Fremont to Chicago by train, and that takes a week to ten days. I lucked out with a delivery right at the end of
the quarter so they "rushed" it on a truck which only took a couple of days.YMMV -- a lot.

By the time I got my email about production mine was already built. I had called my sales rep to add the premium upgrade package and he said sorry he couldn't because it is already built. Then the next day I got an email saying it was going into production...

I was not happy at all. Why even update the website if it's days behind?
Now I am fighting with my sales agent because I ordered on June 1st, confirmed the order on June 2nd and June 3rd I emailed him to add autopilot. He said it was a $500 change order fee but if you read the purchase order agreement...no where in there does it say $500 change order fee until week 2 until delivery.
Event better...the website says estimated delivery June 27 - July 4th and my delivery specialist said mid-July...
None of that sounds right. As I remember from last year you had a one week window from order to confirmation and you could make changes during that time. In addition the order use to state that Tesla *could* charge you $500 but rarely did unless the car was in the production line. If I were you I'd escalate beyond the DS to the Manager of your Service Center.

No, that sounds exactly like what I said above except there was "some" flexibility in the enforcement of that policy.
I emailed a nice PDF of the trail to my sales person. If he continues to butt heads with me I will reach out to the manager of the service center.
The purchase agreement clearly says week 1 and week 2 to delivery. Week 1 I can change anything. Week 2 to delivery is subject to the $500 fee. If I ordered on June 1st, pressed the confirm button on June 2nd and asked to add the auto pilot on June 3rd, there should be no $500 fee....period. No where in the purchase agreement does it say week 1 is void after pressing confirm. It does not even define what week 1 and week 2 to delivery are...so legally it has to be taken in a literal sense...
I have nothing to add to answer your question, but came here to ask the same one. I'll post now so others in the future have more data points to draw conclusions from.
My Model S went into production today (I think--I may not have logged in for the past few days). My status was "order confirmed" up until Friday, I'm pretty sure. Today it's "in production".
I placed my order on June 15. I didn't manually confirm the order, if that is even possible anymore, but instead just let the clock run out until I was no longer able to change my design without incurring a fee. That happened at midnight my local time on June 22 and I got the confirmation about 21 minutes later in the wee hours of the morning of June 23--1 week after placing the order.
My delivery specialist, Justin Minns, (who is amazing, btw) told me (I think) in passing on June 21 that his internal system info said my car would come off the assembly line on July 4th (today). Maybe he didn't say off the line; maybe he said it would go into production today and I misremembered. Or maybe his system was wrong. Or maybe it will be finished in a day. Or maybe it went into production a few days ago and Tesla has their factory revved up to ludicrous mode.
My delivery window is, and has been since I placed my order "Late July - August".
I'm in Toronto, Ontario, so not too far from some parts of Illinois, at least when compared to Fremont, CA.
I assume you'll get yours before me since yours was "in production" a week before mine.
I'll post more here when I get more information.
There are a few older threads on this topic. I assume they are no longer good for predicting current trends because production may be faster now, and processes may have changed from 1.5 to 3 years ago. Those threads, however, seem to suggest it took about a week for "production" but also suggested that sometimes the web site status display was not too closely tied to actual reality in the plant. i.e. some cars would be listed as "in production" but then finished within a day.
It seems clear that the current system requires some quality assurance testing at the factory after the car is built, then shipping time (which others here have pointed out can be by train or truck -- but presumably not boat for mainland North America, at least presumably not for Illinois or Ontario), then quality assurance at your local delivery centre. All of that is frustratingly slow in my opinion, especially if trains are taking a week to get across the country.
I have been prepared to wait a month after the car is actually manufactured for it to get into my garage, because of what my delivery specialist told me.
Secretly though, I have been hoping that he is underpromising and it will get here earlier than currently promised. He did not tell me that would happen, but...
P.S. here is the tl;dr version so far:
June 15 - placed order
June 22 - order confirmed
July 4 (I think) - in production
Will update when I know more.
I was warned that confirming early would be the point of no return everything after the confirmation would incur the $500 change fee.... after all, confirming early puts you ahead of all the folks who ordered 6 days before you and waited for the week long confirmation window to expire.

The truck driver who delivered my MS to Indiana (from Chicago) said he delivers to as far away as Montreal, so it seems pretty likely
that your car will go through the same channels. The biggest variable may be whether they put in on a train (the default, slow) or a truck
(when they're in a hurry -- much faster) between Fremont and Chicago. As has been said many times before, once your Tesla arrives
the wait will seem like a distant, fading nightmare. Once you mash that pedal down you'll realize there was no time before you had

Did your My Tesla page change to "In Production"? I ordered the day after you and my order confirmed and my VIN was issued the day after yours. So if yours entered production today, that means mine should start this week as well. I'm a little skeptical, though. I was under the impression that the factory was closed today for Independence Day.

Mine is exactly the same. Mine still shows in queue. My delivery is in PA but my DS said the system shoes delivery date of July 27. This was a few days after confirmation that she gave me the date
