Lightning GT sports car (EEMS Accelerate)

A consortium called EEMS Accelerate has won £2.3m for a trial of 21 high-performance electric sports cars. Included in the project are two Lightning GT sports cars. Constructed from lightweight aluminium, they use a lithium-titanate battery that can be charged in 10 minutes with the right kit but will take much longer if plugged in at home. The car has a claimed range of 180 miles. It’s powerful, too: 500bhp and a top speed of 130mph.

I wonder what the other 19 are?

Lightning Announces Plans for More Electric Cars | Zoomi Life

The Lightning Car Company, through its chairman Ian Sanderson, has announced their intention to also offer three other vehicles. All will be based on the GT’s drive train, but no solid date for release was given for those vehicles.

Those will be all-electrics, like the GT, and will include a high-end, chauffeur-driven car, an SUV, and a smaller sports car with similar style to the GT.

When I saw this thread's title, I couldn't resist.

Note: Although the vehicle moved with an ICE, the time machine was an EV

"Lightning, Britain’s DB9-sized, all-electric GT, is about to enter a “late prototype” phase and should be ready for 250-units-a-year production by spring 2012, according to its backer, Iain Sanderson.

The GT is intended to offer Aston and Bentley levels of pace and sophistication. It is expected to sell for £180,000."

So their production will max out at 250 / yr...and a lightning will run ya about $250,000 USD per, eh?...makes the Roadster seem like a bargin!:wink:

Yes, and they expect that 0-60mph will be sub-5 sec and it will have a range of over 100 miles!

Or for half the price, you can have 0-60 in sub 4 sec and a range of over 200 miles.
