How is this different than regen being on all the time? The bigger question in my mind is why they don’t provide regen-integrated foot braking in addition to fixed levels of off-accelerator pedal regen?
Even GM’s EV1 had this feature while I think the MiniE is the only current EV in addition to Tesla that doesn’t.
Excited about this. I know a lot of people in climates with ice have been wanting this back.Tesla to Revive Low Regen Mode in Upcoming Update

In blended braking systems, the brake pedal uses regen to stop the car until requested deceleration exceeds regen capacity, at which point it blends in friction brakes. Most other hybrids and EVs have brake pedals that operate this way.How is this different than regen being on all the time?
Thanks for responding to that for me! I'll add that regen can incur losses of up to 30% (two trips through the motor, inverter and battery) so inadvertent regen such as over-using the "rubber-band" effect or just lifting off the accelerator momentarily to adjust one's foot is not ideal for top efficiency. With a steady foot however there should not be any difference ... in theory.... No difference in terms of efficiency, just allows for the benefits regen without being forced into one pedal driving. That way you can have throttle lift-off coasting instead of being forced to regen, which some say maximizing coasting is best for efficiency versus only accelerating and regenning. ...
I don't understand what this update actually adds. I've always been able to change between high and low regen. What's different here?Yup, it's back with update 2023.12.8. Info from notateslaap.View attachment 936540
The option is missing on newer cars since like 2021 ish I believeI don't understand what this update actually adds. I've always been able to change between high and low regen. What's different here?
Our Sept 2021 Y never had the option. The option is missing on newer cars since like 2021 ish I believe
On the other hand, I might get it back! (Not that I will use it but I get pissed when features on my car just disappear and it makes a great setting for the valet parking key since you don't have to be assured that the car jockey knows about one-pedal driving.)So is low regen not in fact coming to newer cars? That’s a bummer.
