I don’t qualify for the tax credit so I bought what I wanted
Me too, except I didn't qualify because I wanted Plaid and cream interior. Ultra red was free at the time.
I justified it because I'm 70 y.o., still working, and figured it was my last vehicle, so went out with a bang.
I don’t qualify for the credit either, but I suspect that the Venn diagram of people who:
1) actually qualify for the credit yet…
2) are going to spend $80k on a vehicle and yet…
3) can’t do it without the $7500 credit
Is small enough that this really doesn’t matter. But for that set there’s always grey!

Wow, thanks for explaining that to me. I had no idea.
I’m pointing out not everyone cares about the tax credit, so saying it’s a “$10,000 option” is silly.
This is also true of literally any other option on the base MX, and is very well understood, so a thread to talk about it in relation to a single paint color isn’t particularly useful. People who want the tax credit aren’t going to get ANY options. Those that don’t care will spec their car the way they want it at the prices on offer.
Just like they always have.
