Latest issue I discovered - rear wireless chargers do not work.
My experience w/ Tesla wireless charging is that it's weak overall and unpredictable. Sometimes it would charge normally, sometimes after 2 hrs of driving it's barely up 1%. Believe me I tried to test the performance w/ all types of variables such as current charge level, radio on/off, phone cover on/off, etc. The result is inconclusive.

This is especially true for the rear chargers. You might want to take off the phone cover and see.

My guess is this is all "within SPECs", if you call Tesla about it.
This is sans cover - I run without a cover and the phone charges perfectly on the front row chargers.

On the rear seat, there is zero sign of charging from the phone - audible or vibration.
In a bit of further testing today prior to a ranger showing up, the wireless chargers work less than 5% of the time. And it is extremely inconsistent - I can put the phone in the exact same spot and it will not charge like it was moments before. I assume a defective pad.

Yeah, seems like a bad one. My front one is perfect. I tested the rear ones once and they worked. I'll check them again.

Personally, a disappointing ranger visit.

Ranger brought two iPhones of different sizes and versions and then I was able to catch them for five minutes with my iPhone 14. Ranger's smaller iPhone (6 / 7 design) worked every time, without fail. His other phone (iPhone 11 Max or 12 Max) took a few wiggles and tries to start charging but ended up charging nearly every time. Those times it did not, you change sides on the pad and it started working. Then go back to the side that was not, and it starts working.

My iPhone 14 Pro was the most intermittent, but would charge if you wiggled it around or JUST placed it in the right spot to start charging - which consisted of not too far to the right or left and not all the way to the bottom of the charging pad. And if you miss the coils on the first try, you have to remove the phone from the pad entirely and retry it. Once you position it correctly the first time, you can push it down flush with the bottom of the charging pad borders, phone will keep charging.

To me - this is faulty. It should not be that precise and finicky to start charging. And I thought the pads had multiple coils in there so that it would not be so precise.

My request - anyone with a non-max (e.g. largest iPhone screen) see if their rear Model S refresh charging pad behavior is the same? Much like @n2mb_racing, I just throw my iPhone on the front pads and it charges. No issues. Thought the same for the rear, which appears to not be the case.

Texts from the ranger and service notes:
Hey so I was talking to some of the leads at the service center see if they had any ideas or input to the issue. Everyone seems to agree that you know if it’s working there’s not much else we can do at this time, I guess rear pad might be more finicky and sensitive to the perfect spot or placement of phone. We’ve seen similar issues with the front pad rather than the back. Unfortunately there’s not much else to do at this time sorry about that. One thing they did suggest is maybe try flipping the phone 180 see if it more successfully charges? Just an idea, again sorry couldn’t do much else and have a good rest of your day
Technician Notes
Inspected charging pad and found no damage, tested charging pad with personal phone, work phone and customer phone. Customer phone would intermittently charge and not charge depending on exact location on pad. Work phone seemed to charge first time everytime, personal phone charged most of the time first time.

Explained to customer that phone might need to be moved to perfect spot for it to begin charging and stay charging.
Design different then the front so conditions and function might be slightly different.

A service visit and they not only attempted to fix your problem, and did not break anything in the process?

I'd consider yourself lucky.

Informative, and frankly, not surprised. What did I say about "within SPEC"? 🙃

My ‘21 Plaid has bad rear seat wireless phone chargers as well. If you set the phone down facing you so you can still glance to read on your phone, it will not accept a charge. But when you set the phone 180 degrees, ie the top part points toward the rear of the car, it begins to charge. It’s like the magnetic induction coils underneath the pad are installed incorrectly. The front seat wireless chargers work just fine.

Any news on your phone wireless charger?

As I'm hoping to take delivery of my Model S Plaid soon, I've trying to put together a consolidated list of all the issues folks have been finding at the time of delivery of their cars, so I can look out for such issues before accepting delivery of mine.

The goal would be to note all issues of concern to you, take photos of them, and decide whether you want to take delivery as is and deal with them at service centers, or raise them to delivery specialists and potentially refuse delivery.

I know there's already a refresh issues thread going, and I've been inspired by that one a lot, but this one is specifically for things to look out for at delivery, and it's also not a pros/cons or list of dislikes.

Note that this does NOT include software issues or missing features, which we hope will be fixed with OTA updates over time.

If you've already taken delivery and see anything missing, please add it by incrementing the list with a numbered item.

Hoping this list will help others who are also about to take a delivery. Enjoy!

Thank you for this. I have a EDD 2nd week in October 2023. I'll definitely use this!!

I took delivery of my Model S Plaid on Nov 3. I noted a few issues and among them were:

A fingernail sized paint chip
A-pillar cover not flush to dash/grill on passenger side
Rear seat not secured on drivers side (can just pull it up)
vertical stitching on back of passengers headrest crooked

Ugh. It's been almost three years since the refresh and they can't produce reasonable cars. I would reject delivery. I don't think they can fix the paint issues correctly.
