Michigan passes bill to ban Tesla!

They could still show up at the auto show with a giant banner stating that it is illegal for them to display their cars at the show. No cars, no information about cars, just a statement that they are banned. Maybe followed by fine print about who got how much money in the state from auto dealers. Maybe the statement of support from GM followed by how they are afraid to compete with a better car. Maybe something about how it is easier for someone in China to experience/buy the best car in America than someone from Michigan.

Not sure about this particular conference, but a lot of these shows are run by the dealer associations. They can simply decide not to accept Tesla as an exhibitor.

If anyone wants a vinyl sticker for their car like JST's above with something like "Made in the USA, Banned in Michigan" please let me know what color you'd like I could do them for $5 shipped. PM me for details.

Any other states that have Tesla sales banned are also welcome to the party! ;)

Wth is wrong with some states to ban tesla fro selling cars directly. Tesla so the best thing that happened to the U.S. economy in the last 30years . They make incredible cars and employs America workers. When I hear the some state want to ban tesla , I shake my head in disbelief. That is insane! Tesla might sell 500cars if they are lucky in Michigan. Really how will that impact the car industry in that state. They should instead promote tesla.

You've actually got a point. Per the text of the new law, I'm not entirely sure that it is legal for Tesla to appear at the show at all... (what a ridiculous piece of legislation!)

I do (occasionally) try to have a point. It would be even better if the entire show was disrupted or halted in the middle of it, with crowds of people about, and the police showed up to escort Tesla executives and their vehicles out of the building. What a PR coup that would be!

The bigger problem than sales though appears to be service. My reading is that even if someone in michigan buys a Tesla online, and picks it up out of state, it is illegal for Tesla to service it in Michigan. That would be a major pain for owners who have to drive out of state for any work.

Thanks for the correction, chickensevil!

That would be fun! I'm not sure if Elon, JB, Franz, Deepak, and Jerome are willing to be arrested for the cause, but it would be absolutely awesome. "Billionaire thrown in jail for attempting to NOT sell a legal product, just show it off!" Man, it sounds like a headline from The Onion...

Actually, I think the very best front page picture and headline would be if Jerome was handcuffed by the police, and as he was being escorted out, he yelled at the top of his lungs in that heavy French accent: "You can't stop our reckless growth!"
