I called the above number and was on hold for a while, but eventual a representative got on the line and was very helpful. When i ordered my car, the EDD was 5-7 weeks. Then Tesla switched EDD to 9/14-30. After 9/14 came and went, they switched to 9/18-30. Somehow I sensed what is going on. The representative told me the car is not manufactured yet, nor anytime soon. Best case scenario I might get a VIN by the last week of September, and EDD realistically is early October -- IF everything goes according to plan. The EDD in account management is very wishful thinking.

I just spoke with a delivery specialist at the Costa Mesa, Ca location about why some people were getting vins that ordered after in the same general location. She said that they know nothing about the rhyme or reason for who got the text and who didn't. She hasn't spoken to anyone about the texts. She said she would really expect my car to be coming in my 9/19-9/30 window from what she has seen in the past. As for not having an SA or any contact what-so-ever, she said it is probably because I ordered online (you have to in CA since manufacturer can't sell direct so confused on that one??). She said that yes, while home delivery is not available as an option when ordering, during the end of quarter pushes, they do home deliveries to enable more deliveries. She put a note on my account that I would prefer home delivery due to my schedule being so weird. She did say they give you a 3 day window from when they contact you to show up to buy it or they will pass the car to someone else. She even made it sound as if its a decent chance I get my vin early in my window (within the next week). Let's see how this goes lol

If I had to make a guess, the texts were sent to those who have a more popular spec vehicle. Those of us with less common spec probably aren't getting the text because they know they can push those cars. My build was a M3P with MSM and black seats. The MSM seems to not be a common color at all here and the black seats seem very uncommon as well. Basically everything here is White, black, blue, red with white seats. I don't think I have even seen a performance model around here

8/20 order here, located in Fremont … MSM, black interior, no FSD, and got the text. Current EDD is sitting at 9/17 — 9/30.

As I wrote before, I was to take delivery today, 9/16, but the app now says Saturday, 9/18. Went to the dealer last night to double-check. They pinged my car for its GPS coordinates, and they said it was still on a train in Alabama. They predict it will be here in time for Saturday delivery.

(Note to self: turn off Tesla location tracking after I take delivery.)

I have already scheduled installation of paint protection film on the front. Anybody thinking of doing the entire car?

I wanted to do entire car in stealth before I saw the price... 5k plus tax is overpriced imo. I would rather do a non-ppf wrap myself at home for that cost.

And to be more confounding, after the above call, my SA texted that I should have a VIN next week, notwithstanding what the Tesla rep says, and notwithstanding the EDD. Can't make this stuff up.

??? Tesla has no idea what is going on lol Just put a damned queue up for us to see our place in line. Like cool, ship far orders first, even if the queue goes up and down its still more accurate than this crap lol

Restaurant wait staff, upon realizing a customer's dinner has not been prepared after 45 minutes: "your order is next up after that large party that came in before you." But there is a difference between a $20 restaurant tab and a $60,000 vehicle.

I refuse to be angry, especially at well-intentioned employees. I reserve the right to be sarcastic.
I'm not angry, but Tesla is very much lacking in the logistics department. Having higher demand than supply is fine, but they know how many cars they can realistically make. They know on average shipping times to certain places. They know how many orders they have. They really should not struggling to give an accurate EDD

I would not be surprised if there are a lot of people ordering multiple Tesla cars now and then flip them to make money in this high demand market. Tesla did Jack up the preorder deposit recently. Could be one of the reasons why Tesla now asking buyers if they are ready to purchase their preorders now.
