Model S Delivery Dates and Sequencing

I finalized my order this morning (from a June deposit) and saw that my VIN was showing up under My Tesla about an hour ago (still with the Sourcing Parts status) - this seems fast to me.
From getting a VIN assigned, what the typical timeline for production?
They seem to vary. I finalized on 8/9 and my estimated delivery is scheduled for 9/19. Production scheduled for the week of September 9th. I hope it holds but based on recent reports I'll probably get it a week later than promised.

Got a call from my Delivery Specialist; production to be completed around Sept. 9th. Delivery currently scheduled for the afternoon of the 27th. Of course, schedule is subject to change.

So I am curious--what's the process for getting in touch with a delivery specialist? Do they reach out to you? Also, I'm curious, what is the status of your car on the Tesla website? I confirmed my order on 8/24, received a VIN on 8/26. My order shows as "We are sourcing parts" or something like that and my estimated delivery date shows as "September."

My DS called me within a day or so of finalizing the order to tell me the date it would be ready and to schedule a time for me to pick up the car at the factory. He followed up the call with an email confirming everything. Since then most contact has been done via email.

One thing I'm confused about - I watched the National Geographic video on Tesla and I believe they stated from start to finish they can have a car done in 5 days. My dashboard has been "In Production" for 8 days now and my DS said its somewhere between assembly and paint, which I thought was fairly early in the process. Still counting the hours until I can pick it up.

Peter.

The way my DS explained it to me when my car was 'in production' is that they are finally starting to pull all the parts together for your car. This could take a matter of days before all these parts come together in the assembly area.

I'm sure that's what happened. Yesterday I received another email from the DS saying the car was still somewhere between assembly and paint (which it had been the day before too) and he said it might be there for "a few more days". It would be cool to be able to see the progress as the car proceeds through the line.

Is there a "in production" step between "sourcing parts" and "building your Model S"?

"Ordered Confirmed" is the title and blow that it'll say "Sourcing parts", then it'll eventually change to "In Production" and below that it'll say "Building your Model S".

Sorry: Blow should be below. Fingers not linked to brain.

It would be great to actually see your car produced. Years ago I ordered a BMW and was told on their website I could monitor production. I was very excited and checked almost daily. Basically, I never saw 'my car' but a representation of a car on the assembly line where my car was suppose to be. Very disappointing :frown:

Even a representation would be cool. It would be a way for me to get my Tesla fix for the day without bugging my DS. :)

Process? Not exactly sure. Since I had placed my initial deposit on hold back in June, I had a couple of Tesla email address; including one that connected me in late July regarding the upcoming price change. When I let her know that I had confirmed my order, she copied the DS on her reply to me. I would contact your closest service center (where your car is going to be delivered) and see what they say.

Current status is like yours "Sourcing Parts" and date shown is "Late September"

They want to have your car done and delivery accepted by September 30th --- of course, you don't have to accept a poorly built car, so they don't want to rush and screw things up.

Congrats brianstorms! You went from delivery on the same day as me (Sat Sept 7th) to getting it tomorrow! :( My dashboard still says In Production and has since last Thursday. Yours seemed to jump along the assembly line much quicker than mine is! I actually was hoping that I would be able to pick the car up Friday this week in Fremont, take the factory tour, and drive it down 5 back to San Diego for a real world supercharger experiment. That is not looking possible now so probably stuck with my Sept 7th delivery.

Please post pics and review of your pickup process and car impressions!
