Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I know someone posted this somewhere already (I can't find it right now) but I wanted to reinforce it because the delivery manager for the central and eastern region reconfirmed with me that all sigs will be built before any production cars.
So (my words now), the crazy swings in sequence numbers, vins, delivery dates, etc., for sigs does NOT imply that some P cars will be produced before all sigs are produced.

Mod note: Posts regarding changes in delivery windows went here...Model-S-Delivery-Issues-and-Concerns

Nigel, I don't understand why a post that provides information about a delivery update from Tesla should be moved to a thread about issues and concerns. My post did not complain about a delay or go into lengthy dissertation about how Tesla ought to be behaving. It just provided information that I thought would help others understand whether all windows have been moved or only some of them. I think it was about delivery, not concerns and issues.

As the author of this thread, my original intent was to avoid discussions and focus on delivery data. After several pages of great info & "discussion" it was clear that was not to be. I asked TMC for a banner with delivery and finalize data and instead TMC put up the WIKi on p. 1/post #2 + Google Docs (thanks Tim). So I agree, this thread should contain any discussion that sheds light on deliveries and for users who still want a "quick update" of the delivery data: see post #2 Google Doc Results!

Thanks for everyone's input … this has become a daily must read thread for me.

I got "a" call, but unfortunately it was the opposite of "the" call! :crying: My delivery is pushed back "up to two weeks", so I'm looking at approximately November 9th as a soft target (I don't assume anything anymore) for getting the car.

A couple of other tidbits -- the person I spoke to didn't have much information (or, wasn't allowed to divulge if he did know), but said it was a "quality control issue", so no mention of the Phillippines. And he said it was basically impacting every car right now that's at that stage. Possibly there's a part or supplier that Tesla/Elon are unhappy with, or something happening on the line that they aren't pleased with?

Anyway, I was very appreciative of the proactive call (I planned on checking in this week at some point anyway), and whatever the reason, the bottom line is I won't be seeing my car this month. He said that once the car actually gets released from the factory and on a truck they'll call to let me know, because then we'll have a much better sense of the timing of things (should be about 10 days from the factory to the Dania store).

I'm betting ours will show up at the same time!

It's certainly possible -- as others have pointed out, if these cars are close to complete and it's one issue that needs to be ironed out, once they've cleared the problem there will be a backlog of cars to deliver, so they'll likely have a dedicated truck or two to send to the more populated areas with multiple people waiting on cars.

At this point, I just hope it's before Thanksgiving ;)

Got this e-mail today: "Your car is currently undergoing post production inspections and testing. Keep tabs on your phone and email for us trying to schedule final delivery!" Sig Performance 667/VIN 461.

Interesting. That implies (with an BIG emphasis on speculation) that your car got past the issue that is backlogging other cars. What is your config?

Just got this from my rep:

"It looks like your vehicle has reached the end of line in production. Its next step will be to complete final testing and inspection. Barring any delays or issues I anticipate your vehicle being passed to my team next week. At that point we would be able to schedule a delivery day."

Sig #448, VIN 404. Original delivery window was 10/5-19.

I'm happy for you Dogface! It is nice to see a new delivery but shouldn't there be loads more if the "bottle-neck" is solved?

If you look at the spreadsheet, you will see that there is a large slug of cars (~20) with a window at or near October 5-19 that are to be delivered at the factory. Both Dogface and I are in that batch. Hopefully they will all be going out within the next few days.

After spending the last five days up in the Bay area with the carrot of taking delivery of my car I drove back down to LA carless (well, in a car but not in my new Model S). I got the go ahead to fly up for "weekend" delivery from my delivery specialist last Wednesday so I booked a ticket for Thursday evening. I figured I'd visit my friends and family who live in the Bay area while waiting for my "weekend" delivery of my car.

Tesla called me on Friday night saying that during final inspection of the car they discovered that the rear window was cracked and that would add an extra day or two to the inspection time and I might not get the car on the weekend. Since they knew I also wanted a factory tour they did book a 3pm Sunday time for me with my friends and family to look around. We spent almost two hours looking at the ins and outs of the factory. The factory does not operate on Sunday but is used by the maintenance crew to fix any problems they have with the robots or other mechanical things. We did get to see the robots in action as they were tweaking some programming.

I was not allowed to take pictures of the factory floor but I did see many cars in the 400-650 VIN range on the floor in various stages of completion. There were a lot of completed cars outside waiting for "parts" and final inspection, according to our chaperone (I would guess more than 100).

There was a slim change I would get the car today before I had to head back to LA but that didn't happen. I did take the opportunity on the way home to drive down the 5 and stop at the SuperCharger stations. There were workers at both stations I stopped at (Harris Ranch and Tejon Ranch) working hard to get them completed by Friday.

Kyle, my delivery specialist and tour guide, did confirm that all Signatures will be produced before any Production cars will be made.

Since they were not able to get me my car on time, they did offer to fly me back up later this week when it is done. I will probably fly up Thursday evening and take delivery Friday morning and be one of the first "official" customers to use the SuperChargers on the 5 freeway. I will let you all know what happens.

That is a major disappointment. Couple questions for you ...

Were you able to see your car?

Did you see the cars waiting at the service center (near the North end of the factory)? Or, did you see the completed cars at the South end of the factory? Or, both?

Did they mention any 'common' problems that were causing delays? Or, were the problems numerous and spread across various components?
