Drove past Portland service center and there was a P90DL Model X in Titanium sitting outside. S551

The main differences between that story and that of the other 500+ waiting for delivery such as myself are...
1) they were repeatedly over optimistic in getting it ready for you. This is obviously really bad.
2) they actually told you what was going on in detail
For most of the rest of us it seems the cars finished production a week or two ago and are still being finished... Meaning they are probably going through a few repairs similar to yours, we just don't know the details of what they are. Your experience demonstrates how much stuff they must be fixing with all the other cars coming off the line, mine included...

Good points, if I had it to do over again I'd opt to avoid the explanations and just wait for the delivery call. Here's an update; Yesterday I returned to the service center and met with the service manager. I was told that all parts had been received, the roof panel had been replaced, and the only item remaining was a problem with one of the falcon doors closing. He stated that an engineer was working on it and was confident it was just a calibration issue and the car should be ready today. I noted that this was the first time I was hearing about a door problem and asked if it was similar to a friends X that was returned for service over the weekend with a door issue. He stated that my issue was with the door closing, my friends issue was with the sensor interrupting his door from opening. I questioned his reference to the panel (singular) on the roof being replaced asking if he meant both panels had been replaced. He said he was only aware of one bow. I reminded him that there was also a bow in the center panel. He said he would look at it.

Today I left a message for my DS, he responded in a voicemail "Hey Bill I got your voicemail from this morning I'm back in the office as you can see I checked with my manager of service you met a couple times and this morning he did tell me that the part he's waiting for has not arrived yet, he said that the transport seems to be back ahh initiated today as far as things coming from the factory so he's expecting it hopefully in the next day tomorrow to be exact but it had not arrived between yesterday when things got kind of back started and today so we're still waiting on it- he said to expect it by tomorrow and I'll be in touch with you about but you can give me a call back I'm back in the office you have my number and extension look forward to hearing from you". After hearing the voicemail I called the service manager, he stated he was waiting on parts and didn't have any specific information on them. I reminded him that he told me yesterday that the door issue was a calibration issue, he stated that he told me it was an issue with both doors, one not closing and the other not opening-I respectfully disagreed. I asked what parts specifically he was waiting for, he said an ultrasonic sensor, I asked once the part arrives how long it takes to install it-he said maybe 2-3 hours. I noted that every time I call I'm told of a new issue, first a mirror was broken, then 2 glass panels were bowed, then the glove box wouldn't open, then the rear seat post was inoperable, then one door wouldn't close and now today one door won't close and the other won't open. I noted my frustration that the car doesn't seem to be getting an overall review and noted I'd like to come see the car-he said he would not be able to show it to me. I asked if the doors were the last item on his punch list, he said they were. I then asked if he looked into the center roof panel that we discussed the day before. He noted that he did and he had to order a new roof panel and that this panel was urethaned in and would have to be cut out to be replaced. I asked if that part is delayed will they allow the car to be delivered with a due bill-he said that was up to someone else. Needless to say another frustrating experience.

My summary of the situation, IMHO, is that some parts are not to spec and need replacement.

I can think of my center carpeted floor panel in the rear 4/5 seat area as an example. The floor seems bowed in a slight U shape that allows only one edge to align, the other side sticks up the thickness of the floor. There are three floor panels running across the width of the vehicle and you can see the seam. They are fastened on the sides and not removable. I can press each side of the center floor where the center seat would have been and it rocks back and forth as I attempted to seat the floor completely. It could also be that a floor spacer under the center of the floor is too high, so either problem could exist. The floor spacer problem makes more sense since the six seat version requires a modified design. In any case, one broken seat mover under the floor will require the removal of the floor by the service center, so they can analyze it at that time.

When you see things like that, I understand the need to wait for replacement parts. I was just fortunate to take delivery in time for EOY tax savings, then wait for parts that fit correctly.

Email from DS today: "Your Model X has completed production and will soon be in transit to our location. Once we receive your Model X, our service team will perform a final comprehensive inspection. Once this is completed, I will reach out to schedule the delivery appointment."

So still nothing. Maybe I should be glad my X was (apparently) produced in 2016 - could many of these issues have been already resolved by the factory?

I know many of these issues have to do with Tesla delivering a very complex vehicle and this being the first set and all.

However, i would like the forums input on when we think these issues will begin to go away. Whereby the build quality off the line is improved to a point where Tesla is not completing significant work at the service centers?

After 1k cars built? 5k?

Wonder how long it takes them to insert redesigned parts and production processes to fix quality issues

I feel like the sigs have the most problems. That was the experience with the S. Although I was soon after the Sigs on the S and I still had a ton of small things go wrong with the car. I feel like it took at least a year to make a trouble free Tesla Model S. That being said, they fixed everything and always gave me an fast new S to drive during the fix... After 3 years I feel my S is perfect. No problems... Just in time to sell, get the X and have problems again... lol...

At this very moment, in the Milford, CT Service Center there are eleven Signature Model X's which have arrived today in enclosed carriers. These are being stored inside the SC and will be delivered or trans shipped to Mt. Kisco, NY or directly to the owner's home (as I was told). Most common color in this batch is the Signature Red, followed by the pearl Multi-Coat White or the Metallic Black. Interesting that most seem to have the tan interior.

Sorry but no Pictures... As this is a service center and with the Conn. Laws being what they are, I have always been very reluctant to take pictures inside of the Service Center as I do not desire to wear out my welcome at what will be my primary service facility as well as get any Tesla SC personnel in any hot water.

These X's are all wrapped in protective plastic and they are not much to look at really... BTW, I am still very much on the fence with the looks of the Model X front end. I keep thinking... Corvair?

Oh yes, and a new dual engine skateboard arrived as well. It is sitting along side the rear engine skateboard. The new skateboard has the massive rear engine such as in the P90D.

Awesome shot! Let us know if there were any problems that needed fixing? I read on the forums some people were having some issues. I am picking mine up Monday, but it arrived today and I asked them to give it the once over to make sure all was good when I get in Monday.
