Seriously? I specifically requested mine to be a 2017 built, I still have not receive a VIN yet. Trust me, I am selling my 2014 S, there is a significant value difference. I would wait for a week to a month for a 2017.

What makes you say this? I'm asking because I asked for a 2017 and they looked at me like I was crazy saying" Don't you know it doesn't matter with Teslas? We don't go bay calendar year"...I got a 2016 VIN and I'm waiting for new 2017 VIN according to my DS. Just want to be sure I am right in my desire to title in 2017

The one thing that I wish Tesla would do is assign the Vin # when the car goes into production, perhaps the "paint" stage. Doing it so early is not effective and it seems to be one of the ways that they can influence the stock price (IMO) because they can issue a Vin # and then issue another one without actually building the first one. Over the years, they have given out Vin #s as early as 3-months prior to production (or more). In Model S, they have given out 179,xxx Vin #s but have only built about 165k of them (thru end of Q4). This indicates "skipping" and "un-built" vin #s through time. It doesn't mean there are 15k backlog.

It's not a Tesla VIN problem, but rather a problem with "speculators" trying to figure what's going on inside Tesla. Tesla doesn't want people to figure out what's going inside the company by analyzing the VINs. They have gone to great trouble (with Model-X) to randomize the VINs so that investors can't figure out Tesla's production before they release their official numbers.

Tesla assigns the VIN when they start sourcing parts, which is an efficient thing to do for their production process. They could keep the VIN secret from the customer until the car goes into production, but then you'll get customers complaining that they don't have enough insight into the process. In general, most people want Tesla to be more transparent, not more secretive. Tesla has a very difficult and fine-line to navigate.

Even if they decide to do away with the tax rebate and I do believe they will, the earliest it could take effect would be 1/2018. Just in time for all of those Tesla Model 3's to be produced.
I believe the term is "Ex Post Facto", which is prohibited by the Constitution. You can't make a law retroactive. So unless they repealed in the next 9 days, the effective date would have to be January 1, 2018. I suppose they could pass it in the middle of the year and grandfather all orders placed prior to the passing the law, but I think that would be too much trouble. Attorneys?

Looks like we are rare holders of P90D with AP2! My 2017 MX entered in production on 12/20 expecting delivery/pick up at the Fremont factory on 12/30 according to my DS!
