Model Y at Fully Charged Outside

A good looking crossover/suv. Should sell shedloads, it is what people with kids or dogs or mountain bikes or anything want.
I saw one at a supercharger in France last week, and i’m just not convinced, its definitely not a good looking car.

Agree, they're just not that different. Tesla could just have made the Y (or the X) and made them more reliable and forgotten the other models then produced the promised roadster, a more sensible design truck and the semi as an RV option...

For me the Y is what I originally wanted, I think the higher seating position and slight increases in size is better for me and whilst the 'saloon boot' of the 3 is spacious it is still a narrow opening, and it's not the greatest to car camp in (done it once and whilst I was OK in it it would have been a bit claustrophobic if Mrs F was in there too, I think definitely the Y is going to be as big a seller as the M3 and when my lease is up in 2 years time fingers crossed the Y (or whatever replacement is out lol) is fo sale over here!

I personally do not like this whole mini SUV craze.. I kinda see this in the same vein as Evoques etc. None of the actual benefits of a proper SUV, with all of the drawbacks, particularly aesthetically.

It'll sell though, because everyone has to have a massive car nowadays.

I like the idea of the Y, but it does have the unfortunate look of a Model 3 that’s been stung by a bee.

my real concern is the size of it, given our usually stingy parking spaces over here, if this site is accurate it’s pretty wide.

It is certainly distinctive, if we had never seen the M3 we would think it refreshingly different. Unfortunately the M3 is a sporty and attractive, rather upstaging the Y.But as has been said, the Crossover - SUV market is where all the action is, so it will sell in shed loads, but not to me.

I have to admit to once owning an Evoque: possibly the worst car I've owned. Unreliable, uncomfortable and unrewarding to drive. I have no explanation as to why I purchased it, other than to say "it seemed a good idea at the time".

Its bigger, not as good looking, less efficient than a similar gen 3. Almost nothing going for it. Then I see the picture of the boot/hatch and temptation sets in. My P- with tow is special and not going any where, but I do wish they had come with a hatch.

According to RSymons the range and efficiency of the Y & 3 are the same! Very strange considering the near 50 miles claimed extra range of the 3LR, and has made me wonder if I should have waited for the Y:

You would've been waiting a long time. The Model Y isn't due over here until Q1/Q2 2022, from what I've been led to believe.

There will always be improvements and bigger batteries, etc around the corner, much like with phones, computers, etc.

If it had been available in 2019 I imagine I would have bought a Y rather than a 3. I've never owned a saloon before, seemed like an outdated concept. Absolutely no problems adapting, the boot is massive for family of 4 holidays with paddleboard etc. I came from a BMW X1 which had the fake SUV height thing, but changing that didn't bother me at all, and I wouldn't specifically choose an SUV again.

If Y comes to the UK with the new battery technology and FSD Computer 4 then I guess I would be tempted to change. I'm not sure I would be happy with becoming the 'dump trip car' though, the Mrs' Leaf seems more at home there already.

My M3 is arriving Q4, so possibly would not have been much extra wait. MY is going to be a lot more expensive though, so hopefully I’ll be satisfied with the M3.

Here’s a good size comparison, if anyone’s interested:View attachment 706844

This really put things in perspective and show how much the two models are not aimed at the same clientele, yet share many components - hence why Tesla made them.

On a side note, the show was great and seeing the Y in the flesh was excellent + all the retrofit specialists. Impressed with the Ioniq5 look and specs, but Tesla is still well ahead.
Great show, great vibe - too bad we could not test the Mach-e to compare it to the Y.

The Ioniq 5 looked good but the price of it when specced to a decent level were crazy imo

My wife needs a hip replacement at some point and much as we love the Model 3, the raised height of a model Y would make it far easier to enter/exit and more practical when reaching into the boot. It's not an attractive car though (but then again, at my age nor am I & she tolerates that)

Its bigger, not as good looking, less efficient. Almost nothing going for it.
Describes me too!
But as I said above, she tolerates and is accepting of both me and a Model Y.
