I have had an exhausting time with a current purchase and was hoping to reach out to the community here in hopes someone can help me. Basically I have purchased a Model X 30 days ago, and it still hasn’t been shipped out. Does anyone have a relationship with someone important in Tesla?

Here is a synopsis of what has been going on- any help or advice would be appreciated.

I currently have a Model S that I love and I wanted to get my wife a X. I had been watching EVCPO Hunter and had found some great Q3 adjustments and was looking to get a 100DX for her, but had actually never driven an X so I set up an appointment with Tesla Lennox in Atlanta.

Saturday Sept 2nd I meet Ty and Blake. Blake told me he is one of the top OA’s in the country. They encouraged me to go ahead and put my $2500 deposit on a P100DX that had somewhere like $30K in adjustments. It wasn’t exactly what I was wanting but they basically said that it would really just be holding it in case there wasn’t anything better they saw become available over the next few weeks.

Sept 5th- After continuously refreshing EVCPO, I find my unicorn. It is exactly what I was wanting with color and seat configuration on a 100DX. (39237) it has a huge adjustment like $17K. I think it was like $102K for a loaded 100DX. I email Ty and Blake- and ask them to move my deposit or asked if I should just go ahead and immediately put a credit card deposit on it. Ty never emails me back. Blake emails me back and says that he will just move my deposit. I see that like 12 hours after this email the link to the car is still working (it doesn’t say this car is unavailable) So I email him reminders on the 6th. Shortly afterwards (like 20 hours after I first asked to reserve it) the link shows the car is unavailable. And then I wait. On the 8th I email him again asking about the status and he calls me. Says the car was never available and reports that it was sold hours before I first saw it- Which honestly I find unbelievable.

Then I find others but there is always something wrong…they are in Hawaii or they wouldn’t be able to transport one that was in Denver (even though he was going to do free transportation for the original P100DX that was in CA). Finally around September 20th Blake tells me I have to buy one or make a custom order now or I will lose my $2500 deposit. So I stall for a day and then call back and he confirms that I have to buy something and take “ownership” before the end of the quarter. I end up finding a showroom 75D that had a good adjustment and was close to what I was wanting in configuration and was in Florida meaning I would not have to pay for transportation to ATL.

I complete financing on Sept 28th. He says they are going to move the car to an offsite area so they can say that I have taken ownership. Blake then calls back and says I have to fill out a different type loan request since I am out of state…I have to wait a few hours and when I start working on it he calls back and says nevermind now I don’t have to fill out the other loan, everything is good. He tells me to expect my car in 1-2 weeks.

By Oct 7th- haven’t heard back from anyone. I send an email and get no response. I call on Oct 11th and he says we are still on track for the 2-3 week delivery schedule (originally 1-2 weeks). I don’t hear anything again until Oct 19 after I email him. He says that he needs to get loan finalized (I thought this was done). Alliant calls me- they say this could have been done weeks ago. He tells me the car is marked “HOT” and will be shipped asap- he said he thinks it will be Friday the 20th and would call me if it isn’t shipped by then and promises to give me daily updates. I hear nothing on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday; so on Tuesday (24th) I emailed Blake asking for an update...I get no response email or call. I called them the ATL store on Wednesday and asked to speak with the manager. Adam the manager calls back and is nice, he apologizes says that the car is marked “HOT” and will ship out any day. Says he will give me daily updates. He leaves message on Thursday saying they are still waiting. I get no call on Friday or Saturday and then on Sunday afternoon I get a call from a 510 area code saying he is actually the manager, not Adam and that my car is marked “HOT” and that he would daily update me. Says he will figure out what is going on and let me know.

It is now 11 days since I was first told that my car is “HOT” and 31 days since I purchased it and took “ownership.” What is happening? I never received any pictures of my car or a carfax or condition report. I have truly tried to be as calm as possible; I try to wait a week between emailing them or calling. But I feel this is ridiculous. Is this normal? Has anyone else felt this way? Does anyone have any relationships with anyone with Tesla that can fix this?

Thank you all for your help.

Sorry that I can't really be of much help but what does it mean that you took "ownership?" It seems like the bank hasn't funded the loan yet so the car is just set aside to you since you put down the deposit.

Do you have a delivery experience specialist assigned that you can contact?

thank you...I think it was just a way of getting Q3 numbers...They said it was the only way for them to 'lock' me into the .99 financing.

I have only spoken with the OA and the managers via calls. None of them email...other than to ask for me to call them. So I guess I don't have a delivery experience specialist...Are they just for custom orders?

If you truly own the car, its yours, get on a plane and take possession. Have them pay for the flight. Nothing like showing up in person.

Otherwise, if you haven't really bought it. You have to escalate to California. Ask for your money back. Tell Alliant you do not have the car and have no idea of when it will be delivered and they can ask for their money back.

Then you will likely see action.

Those are definitely things I have thought of. Who would I call in California? Should I try to tweet to Elon?;)

Just everyone I spoke with for weeks has been indicating that I am about to get it so I just put off doing anything drastic. But I just feel fed up at this point. I'll call Alliant and see what I can do.

Thank you.

This push for Q sales and calling it "adjustments" instead of discounts is really much better than the franchise dealership model!

Hit send to fast...I would use the executive escalation if you want to get the car you have in ordered or go the cancellation route through the lender if you don't want that car anymore

Are you actually paying for the car already or still just out your $2500 deposit???

Sorry to see you're having trouble. You're in Alabama, and your new Model X is still in Florida? There were delays on Tesla's side, so you may need to wait another few days. Three weeks from October 11th is November 1st, so you're coming up on the end of the timeframe they gave you. Pictures and a condition report are something you can request right away, and you'll want to do a full inspection yourself before you take delivery.

You can also write to [email protected] about your concerns. It would be really great if they put status updates in the owner's account for these types of orders, e.g. shipment date expectations, car's shipped out, car received, preparation, and ready for pickup status information. This would clear things up for a lot of people.

I'm sure Tesla can work all of this out for you. Early congrats on your new Model X!

Thank you! I actually called the 888 number last week and was referred back to my local store-I was just hoping someone knew someone I could call personally. the $2500 went on a credit card a while ago and my first payment for the loan will be in December. So I guess I am already paying for it.

I'll email them now. thanks for your perspective. I have been telling myself for a while that I should just wait a few more days! They have told me they would deliver to my house in Alabama instead of having to pick up in Atlanta...will this hurt my chances to do a full inspection upon delivery?

thanks again

So much for being a top OA who repeatably ignores your email. If you really want the car then I would say escalate it. However, Alliant CU only has a 60 day lock and that would make things difficult such as ordering a new car or finding inventory.
Thanks for the heads up about the lock. I actually just figured he was busy with other clients and tried not to bother him too much since he was so popular. I guess most Tesla's are custom order and don't really require a lot of work from the OA?
