New consol in refresh Model S question

With the new consol, you can dock your phone. I was told that I could have Tesla thread a lightning cable to dock my iPhone in. My question is, what size cord size is ideal? I'm seeing some as small as 8 inches to 3 feet. Any suggestions?

I was under the impression they provided you with a lightning or micro-USB cable installed already, and I think typically unless you tell them it's a lightning as there is some assumption that Tesla owners are more likely to use iPhones; however, as an Android user/developer this has me less than happy. There are some thread discussions related to modifying the console for iPhone's in cases as the cable isn't out enough to insert when in the case. I'm going to have to likely leverage a 3D printed part that someone designed so I can use a USB-C charger cable, since my phone doesn't use either of the options provided... so without modification the console for phone is useless for me.

Yes, you get 2 cords with specially shaped ends that fit in the dock. The cords are feed under a small plate that's held with a few screws. It only takes a few moments to change it. The DS installed mine while I was distracted by the cute Orientation Specialist.

To be clear: the new console does NOT have the iPhone dock standard. You have to upgrade to the premium package to get the iPhone jack included.
This is correct. It is your choice to spend the money, but I found I was far better served by doing a very small dremel hole to the blank that is already in there, and using two dabs of hot glue to secure the cable. Running it up through the channel that is already there is just the same process as the old center console. Picture below (it is the old console blank, but nearly identical in process and procedure to new blank).

Mine was in a box in the glove box. I have the premium interior package. The plastic adapters are to fit the regular size iPhone or Plus. It came with an android cable and iPhone cable which runs under the rubber tray. Good thing there are 2 USBs though because it isn't deep enough to fit my iPhone Plus with a tech21 case.

This is why you shim the connector.

I don't think this is correct, as I do not have the premium package on my refreshed model S yet both the micro usb and lightning cable adapters were included when I picked up my car. I also am not a fan of either, as I found them very clumsy and difficult to dock. I set up a wireless charging system in mine that is working great so far..

I got the dock also when my car (with premium) was delivered last month.

I find it quite easy to dock my iPhone 5S with the guides installed. There are smaller guides that would presumably fit an iPhone 6. Note that since the connection is bluetooth about all you get from docking is phone charging.

I don't have the premium package and didn't get it. Plus both my sales rep and DS said it only came w/ premium package (or via the Tesla store after order). This is a ss from the configuration page:

I have a refreshed Model S and I did not opt for the premium package. My car did come with the console (as it is now stock) but it did not come with the quick connect phone dock.

As was pointed out earlier, you can pretty quickly and easily make your own dock or you can buy the dock on Tesla's store (for what I believe to be an absurd price). There are a lot of options here.

Strange, I wonder if I just got lucky or if something changed afterwards as I took delivery of one of the very early Model S refreshes. It really is just the cables as I assume the console part stays the same, and I am sure it would be easy enough to fit a normal cable in there if you did not get the ones included at delivery.
