also has hands off driving in Japan...
seems like CCS for USA, EU, and chademo for Japan, still to see if it is gbt or chaoji for China
about 65 or 90kwh battery
better passenger space
speedometer infront of steering wheel
still a year to go before deliveries
FWD or AWD

includes Nissan Thin "Zero Gravity" seats (arguably the best feature of Nissan Altima and Maxima)
has same wheelbase as Maxima (2,776mm), visually a lot narrower

motors are EESM, hmmm feels very renault, different to everyone else

Beautiful car.

I’m surprised how far behind they are in regards to Tesla given their head start with the Leaf.

No frunk, 130 kW max charging, oddly small cargo area, and somehow they’re getting way less range out of a much larger battery. Getting 300 miles out of 87 kWh in late 2021 is totally unremarkable.

I love the interior though and am glad to see Nissan moving to CCS.

I like the colour but there’s no way this thing is beautiful.

Japanese car designers have lost the plot IMO - too much plastic tat and fluff sprouting off the car, particularly around the wheel arches and the rear. Honda Civic is a good recent example of this along with the god awful plastic wheel arches of the RAV4 hybrid. Toyota/Lexus also has a love affair with the big silly grille on the Camry etc - looks like a snow plough or a moustache.

Next thoughts, This is not a LEAF nor its replacement.

Leaf is Nissan's Sentra class EV
Ariya would be Nissan's Altima class EV except for the bling, interior and go fast creases, so its a Maxima class EV.

Maxima does not replace Sentra
Ariya does not Leaf
Ariya does not cost same as Leaf.

Kinda like nissan Kicks vs Rogue.

Thats rear end fashion, boots are very aerodynamic but the market does not pay car companies enough profit to keep making 3 box or kamm back cars.

Look at tesla X vs S efficiency or tesla Y vs 3 efficiency. The 2 box look is what the market is willing to pay for, but it sucks aerodynamicly. This kind of butt has a similar aero penalty that Y vs 3 has (except the Y is the starting baseline).

Sedan/Kamm is best
Smooth hatch is second best
Cut hatch is third (most EV will be here)
Square back is last. (What a lot of market who care about parking actually want and will pay for)

seeing as LEAF is based on Sentra and Ariya is based on Maxima, lets compare prices

so, i predict base Ariya (65kWh) will cost 75% more that of base LEAF (40kWh)
and that be its fair value relative to Leaf, maybe a bit more room to discount, so call it 2/3 more expensive for base model.

so if base leaf is $31k, base Ariya would be $46k, before rebates and negotiation.
thats way too close to top line LEAF

so something has to change.
