Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

Does anyone know how the Octopus ”Power Hour” energy saving sessions are actually calculated?

I’ve taken part in all of them, but the results just seem totally random.

I’ve had sessions where we’ve switched off as much as we can and gone out, only to be told that we didn’t manage to save anything.

Some sessions, we’ve made very small savings, Including one where virtually everything was switched off and the whole family was in another country.

One session I forgot it was happening despite signing up, only to be told I’d managed to save 93% of my normal usage and be credited with over £16 off!

I’ll continue to sign up for them and don’t really do it expecting to save much as we are already quite energy efficient. It all just seems so random.

National Grid ESO just published the settled figures for the 1st and 2nd March events (51 of 56 MW procured, 129 of 100 MW respectively).

Which means Octopus may well credit the last 14th March 2024 one shortly given they are due funds from the previous two.

Remarkably low £15,072 payout for the 1st and more respectable £40,151 for the 2nd.

Three; 17:30–18:00, 18:00–18:30 and 18:30–19:00 up for grabs. Auction outcome will be interesting. 1.5 hour might suggest this is the final one too.

The last time there was three settlement periods Octopus only secured two of them. Curious to know if they’ll run the whole period this time.
And I didn’t charge my batteries yesterday because the carbon intensity was very high overnight… serves me right for trying to be “carbon conscious” 🤦🏻‍♂️

I'm producing a piddly 1.6 kW at the moment.

Explains the colour... now I can't get it out of my head.

Thanks for that... :D
