The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has directed the staff to issue a final rule that certifies NuScale’s small modular reactor design for use in the United States. The certification’s effective date is 30 days after the NRC publishes the rule in the Federal Register.
maybe this has been posted, I don't know.

Dang, I was hoping liquid metal tech would make Tesla that turns into a TeslaBot possible.
This is of interest to me because Ambri has a deal with the Canadian gold mining company Ponzi scheme that wants to reopen a gold mine in the area known as Stibnite in the county where I live. "Stibnite" is antimony sulfide. Antimony is a common leftover from gold mining. But processing it is it is so toxic that, outside of a small facility in Montana, afaik, it is mainly processed in China where they don't worry about such things. It is a major question whether or not it can be scaled up, as alluded to in the article. The antimony here in Idaho could be used to make batteries to power 1 million homes for 20 years. But then what? The antimony is depleted and...

Well, the way they separate gold from antimony is cyanide leaching

But if you get something else,

Sounds like a good process. Burning methane does produce carbon dioxide, but it must not be much.

More solar + batteries on the way in the Hawaii - 60 MW solar / 240 MWh batteries coming online next year. The kicker is that the PPA is selling the energy from the plant to HECO for only $0.08 / kWh - far below the cost of fossil fuel electricity in Hawaii...

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A federal judge on Friday reinstated a moratorium on coal leasing from federal lands that was imposed under former President Barack Obama and then scuttled under former President Donald Trump, in an order that marked a major setback to the already struggling coal industry. The ruling from U.S. District Judge Brian Morris requires government officials to conduct a new environmental review before they can resume coal sales from federal lands. Morris faulted the government’s previous review of the program, done under Trump, for failing to adequately consider the climate damage from coal’s greenhouse gas emissions and other effects. Almost half the nation’s annual coal production — some 260 million tons last year — is mined by private companies from leases on federal land, primarily in Western states such as Wyoming, Montana and Colorado.

California Governor Gavin Newsom is proposing to give PG&E Corp a $1.4 billion government loan to extend the life of a nuclear power plant it runs by as much as a decade as the state seeks to shore up electric reliability while moving away from fossil fuels, his office said on Friday. The proposal, which would have to be introduced as a bill in the state legislature, is the latest in a series of steps California has made this year to reconsider its 2016 decision to retire the Diablo Canyon power plant by 2025.

Every Dollar Spent on This Climate Technology Is a Waste Opinion | Every Dollar Spent on This Climate Technology Is a Waste

What the technology, known as C.C.S., also does is allow for the continued production of oil and natural gas at a time when the world should be ending its dependence on fossil fuels. The Inflation Reduction Act, which President Biden said he will sign this week, does more to cut fossil fuel use and fight climate change than any previous legislation by expanding renewable energy, electric cars, heat pumps and more. But the law also contains a counterproductive waste of money, backed by the fossil fuel industry, to subsidize C.C.S.

Some of the things that go into sausage you wouldn't want to eat if you knew.

This is why we need to be free of the Joe Manchins of the Senate.

Two-thirds of Tory voters back temporary nationalisation of energy firms – poll

More than two-thirds of Conservative voters say that the government should temporarily renationalise energy companies if they cannot offer lower bills, according to polling. The poll, released by the campaigning organisation 38 Degrees, also shows overwhelming support for Labour’s policy to freeze the price cap this year, keeping it at its current rate of £1,971. The Opinium poll found 86% of the public and 85% of current Conservative voters back keeping the price cap. The surge in public support for freezing prices put renewed pressure on the Conservative candidates ahead of a hustings on Tuesday night. Liz Truss has suggested she favours help for only the most vulnerable households – as well as tax cuts in the autumn.
