Oil firms have internally dismissed swift climate action, House panel says

Some of the world’s largest oil and gas companies have internally dismissed the need to swiftly move to renewable energy and cut planet-heating emissions, despite publicly portraying themselves as concerned about the climate crisis, a US House of Representatives committee has found. Documents obtained from companies including Exxon, Shell, BP and Chevron show that the fossil fuel industry “has no real plans to clean up its act and is barreling ahead with plans to pump more dirty fuels for decades to come”, said Carolyn Maloney, the chair of the House oversight committee, which has investigated the sector for the past year.

Yahoo News: U.S. expected to announce major nuclear fusion energy breakthrough.

I would love to short whiichever company pops off of this news. net-positive nuclear fusion had already been demonstrated last year. The problem is that the fuel for this reaction is so expensive (and scarce) that nuclear fusion will never reach commercial viability as a power plant.

No doubt still a ways off but for EVs it’s another potential positive unlike for ICE.

A nuclear energy project in Wyoming, backed by Bill Gates and the U.S. Energy Department, is delayed by at least two years amid worries about supplies of a special fuel currently made in Russia, the head of TerraPower, the company building it said on Wednesday.

In the first half of 2022, 24% of U.S. electricity generation came from renewable sources

*Hydropower and wind generation, which, combined, make up the majority of U.S. renewable generation, typically peak in the first half of the year, when there are more windy days and the winter snowpack is melting. In the second half of 2022, we expect that renewables will make up a smaller share of generation than they did in the first half of the year (20%) as wind and hydroelectric generation decline

Singularity Hub: Ukraine Conflict Has the World on a Renewable Energy Run, IEA Report Says. Ukraine Conflict Has the World on a Renewable Energy Run, IEA Report Says

A rapid transition to renewable power is essential to avoid the worst effects of climate change, but governments have been lukewarm in their commitment. Energy security concerns spurred by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine seem to be sharpening minds, though, according to a new report. In its latest assessment of the state of renewable power, the International Energy Agency (IEA) says that the global energy crisis the conflict has caused is driving a significant acceleration in the roll-out of green energy projects as governments try to reduce their reliance on imported fossil fuels

But that isn’t the only reason it’s more efficient, as the company says the fuel can easily be produced by methane from cow pies, allowing for a more circular economic model in the most circular of industries. The pioneering 270hp tractor is claimed to be a match for the performance of standard diesel-powered versions. The groundbreaking machine was developed by British company Bennamann, which has been researching and developing biomethane production for over a decade. Waste byproducts from a herd as small as 100 cows are turned into a fuel called fugitive methane in a biomethane storage unit based on the farm. A cryogenic tank fitted on the tractor keeps the methane in liquid form at -162 degrees°C giving the vehicle as much power as a diesel but with significant emission savings.

It's not fugitive methane if it's a fuel. It's ex-fugitive methane.
