Imo this is a good time to do the update. The world economy is weak with high interest rates needed to fix inflation hangover from printing money during covid. Also the war in Ukraine costing a lot while with high energy and food prices while the market adapts. Add to that a big heat wave and rain storms in many parts of the world leading to draughts and floods. Meanwhile the Chinese economy is suffering from covid lockdowns hangover, American boycotts, their insane property bubble slowly popping and mass youth unemployment. For Tesla their 4680 ramp has been delayed and they are in the switch from HW3 to HW4.

So this seems like a good time to do the line upgrades and refresh models. Sure it will cost a lot in a difficult time. But better that than to halt production when demand is sky high when the economy is booming in another year...

This exercise is to bring down costs. Yet, the MY will get its own makeover. The MY does not need to copy castings since it already has them. Various interior pieces yes, but what about the internal wire architecture. Remember when Tesla was working on simplifying the wiring? Motor Trend has an article on something similar that all manufacturers are going too and that is an ethernet architecture. No doubt 48V will also come to the M3/Y and CT.
