Radar Detector Mount

Here is my experience. I had a escort 9500ix that was 7 years old. I noticed range was not the greatest when I got my model s. I had read they got rid of the coating on my 2017 model s. I wasnt too sure if that was true or not.

I ended up buying a uniden r3. Range is phenomenol and I get cops from miles away. I suspect my old detector's sensor was just not as sensitive as it used to me.

I have my uniden hooked up to a sunvisor clip and it works great. I prefer visor clips since it keeps the detector out of sight and out of the sun.

Hi All,

I'm picking up my 2017 90D at the end of the week. Step 1 is to get my Escort Max 360 radar detector installed. Because I live in Nebraska, there is no need for a fancy Escort 9500ci because I rarely run into laser here.

Normally I've just purchased the appropriate Blendmount for my radar detector, but they do not have one compatible with the 2017 Tesla S.

For those of you who have mounted radar detectors to the RV mirror, what mount did you use? I've searched the forums a ton and can't find a good solution.

Thanks!

Nick
Ram Mount to winshield with grey 3m tape.

My EZPass works fine on the M3 - mounted next to the rear view mirror on the passenger side. So I don't feel there is any coating on the windshield. Bought a new Radar detector as well to go with the M3 and it works. Gets too many false alarms though. Not sure if it is because of the Radar design, all the sensors and radar in the car or the fact that there is a clear view all around.
When you say too many false alarms, are you comparing to using a similar detector in another car, or is this your first experience with radar detectors? Does the radar detector have advanced settings, like in-car-radar filtering, ability to disable bands not used in your area, GPS based lockouts, etc? All those can reduce the number of false alerts, however there will always be some and you learn with experience to gauge their seriousness (having directional information helps there, knowing whether the source is in front, behind you, or you are passing it on the side).

He's referring to all the radar sensors on cars(think they are called BSM?). Acura has some of the worst. I have been a long time Escort fan and recently moved to Uniden. I will never go back! Too many false alarms on K band(Escort) every time a car goes by me. I do have one of those 2013 with the stupid metallic windshield. So I had to make sure the horn/antenna for the radar portion has full access in that small, dotted windshield zone by the rear view mirror.

I was also an escort fan for years. Never thought id like my Uniden as much as I do. They also give free red light camera updates which escort charges for .

I have a Uniden R2 mounted to the left of the rear view mirror and a dashcam and EZ Pass tag to the right - both the R2 and EZ pass appear to be working fine (June 2017 build), but I haven't really tried the R2 on another car for comparision though.
The K/Ka band are fairly sensitive. The laser alert goes off at every EZ Pass booth, but only when I am about 30-40 feet from it...not sure if there is some interference and it should be going off sooner - might just be the angle of how the beam hits the windshield though.

Laser alert without jamming fairly useless, so why not disable it if it give you false alarms?

Has anyone found a solution for an Escort Max 360C radar mount for the rear view mirror on the Model S?
