Well on the Q5, when it goes up, if it hits something, it doesn't reverse but it does stop trying to "lift". That would be optimal IMO.

AO, there's no visible sensor on the outside of the liftgate for sure. That'd be an interesting question for Tesla.
My (most?) automated garage door(s) has (/have) this feature.most automatic liftgates it can detect extra/unusual resistance and immediately stops (on the way up) or reverses (if it is closing). You can test it quite easily by simply pushing against the liftgate while it is in operation, without risking your limbs
Our family's ability to take delivery of the Model S depends on the jump seats being suitable for our kids for a couple of years (currently age 8 and 5.5, average height). We've gotten wildly diverse claims from various Tesla folks regarding the suitable dimensions for the seats, with the latest (and most plausible) coming from our Personal Configurator today, "at least 3’ 11” tall and between 35 and 77 pounds". No mention of maximum height, though I've seen 5' 0" claimed elsewhere. Does anyone have authoritative information, or know of someone who's taken delivery of a Model S with jump seats who might be able to confirm suitable height for the rider(s)?
shokunin - If you don't mind me asking, how old are your kids? Roughly what percentile are they for height (tall, average, short for their age)? I'm trying gauge how many years I might get for my tall 4 year old.
GREAT tip!Don't know if this is posted, but if you have problems with the liftgate hitting an object that is, say, hanging from your garage, manually lift the gate to your desired height, press the button and hold. From this point onward, this is the max height that the liftgate wil raise. To nullify this, simply manually lift the gate to the max height and press the red button (okay, it is black with red scribed in it) and hold. The max height is reset.
For what it's worth I measured my average height 8.5-yr-old and almost 6-yr-old seated, the 8.5 year old was 26", the 5++ year old was 23.5".shokunin - If you don't mind me asking, how old are your kids? Thanks very much for posting the original picture - very helpful!

Last weekend a friend showed me his S. When I opened the trunk I turned and asked him where the 2 jump seats were that I knew he had ordered; I was curious because I too have ordered the rear facing 3rd row seats. He said that Tesla said that they were back ordered. For the old-timers, sounded remotely familiar to when the Roadsters were delivered without the carbon fiber hard tops. Does anyone know about production delays for these rear facing seats? Anyone taken delivery of them recently?
Delivery specialist thought the hold up was getting the seats approved by the DoT.
Concerning! I hear no chatter about this.Took delivery Monday night. No rear facing car seats - they were put on the due bill. Hopefully they'll come soon so my wife and I plus the four kids will fit. Delivery specialist thought the hold up was getting the seats approved by the DoT.
Yes, seated height (as the original poster measured).inches???
Pretty cute kids. I see no bad genetics in play here.Sadly, bad genetics are in play here. They are short for their age, pretty far down on the percentage scale. They are 10 and 6, soon 7. Although most of the taller girls have longer legs which doesn't come into play in terms of seating height.
:crying: I would have hoped they would get the seats approved before even offering them as an option. Hopefully it's just a formality. If DoT rejects them with no alternative seating, Tesla's going to have a some unhappy owners who've already taken delivery.
