ScanMyTesla Helps Fill the Gap Now that Cards are Gone From v11

After we lost trip cards in v11, I decided to buy the ScanMyTesla app (plus the couple pieces of hardware it requires). It was easy to install, and during a long drive yesterday I found it to be a pretty good proxy for the missing trip card. Now I can view my average and real-time consumption numbers again (without having it cover my entire map), plus there's a bunch of other interesting data available. It was fascinating to watch the temperatures shoot up while I was on my way to a Supercharger.

So if anyone else has been missing your trip card, I'd recommend looking into ScanMyTesla.

The iPhone version of Scan My Tesla gets such low reviews in the App Store. I'd love to have this same information show above and for the same reasons. Is the iPhone version similar or what's missing since it gets poor reviews?
Well for one you need the wiring harness to make this work. That's not a knock against the app, but it is a bit of a barrier to entry to keep in mind.

Yeah, the wiring harness is a bit intimidating. I'm not a fan of messing with that stuff either, but after watching a bunch of youtube installation videos I was convinced this would be easy even for me.

This is the harness. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DXY5KVX

This is the bluetooth OBD reader I got. This isn't the cheapest one available, and it's by far the most expensive part of the rig: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JFRFJG6

So all-in I spent about $160 for the set-up. It took 5 minutes to install and have it working.

I already had panel removal tools, but if you don't have them you can get them really cheap: https://www.amazon.com/KINGLAKE-Panel-Removal-Radio-Installer/dp/B00HNMLQAG/ You don't actually need these panel tools, but they're good because otherwise you might scratch the panel prying it off with a screwdriver. The panel tools are just nice to have around, especially for what they cost.

As for using this on an Apple IOS phone--I can't speak to that because I use Android. I do think the developers are actively managing the app, so if there were bugs I'd think they have either been fixed or are being fixed. Can't say for sure though.

I use Tes LAX. The harness is passive and connects to the diagnostic port under the screen (on full wheel MS). As stated you will need J1939 CAN bus adapter. The BT adapter in the post works well.
The app is passive - only reads data - and it is pretty good. A ton of info that I would love to have in the console (instead of Sonic The Hedgehog :) )

I think that'll work. Thanks! I'll let you know how it goes.
Some info here (including in the comments):
Yep, scary but I was able to pull it all out... and put it back. Only problem is that there isn't enough room to stuff those wires to connect the ODBConnect MX+ in that space so I've got a wire hanging out. Also ScanMyTesla isn't working so well with my iPhone. I'll play with it. Thanks again for the link to that video.

The app gets updates when a Tesla update mixes up the signals at the very least. It works well as long as you recognize it's a geek app, not a mainstream application.

Those on iOS can look at the TesLAX app if they prefer. I believe it does something similar.

Love tes⸱LAX. My problem with it is that most of the signals aren’t layman readable. I like how SMT renamed them so we know exactly what they are.

Scan my Tesla is not good on iOS. Excellent on android.

The UI is very confusing and and a lot of options are not available. I hope the new update fix at least some of the issues. I really hope the app matures soon enough..for me I would give them 4/10.

Having trouble getting data on my 2022 X. Bought this cable:
Using SMT latest from the play store.
My Elm327 is a bit old but it SMT connects to it and starts loading data. The problem is it only loads a few things and then stops:

the wireness takes <10USD from aliexpress and takes less than..... 2minutes to install. it is really not a barrier.
