I would love the impact of Google investing into Tesla. It's something that Google would do, and a massive cash infusion could really help catapult the stock higher.

Especially if it's Gigafactory #2 in Europe. That would be an incredible jump-start to the stock price.

Thanks all. As already noted it's not rocket science, just neurosurgery. The doctor would take that statement well. He has his undergraduate degree in physics, and his M.D. and Ph.D.

Leaving for hospital now. Hope TSLA takes off today.

Well, it didn't take off until today.
But I'm patient. I still haven't finished the book. I was too exhausted yesterday and haven't had the time today. Maybe this weekend.

Cheers all.

Don't know whether you have heard of this already - Daimler is now building batteries for storage as well although they offer 2.5 and 5.9kwh packages. They are going to sell their batteries in cooperation with one of the biggest German utility, EnBW.

Daimler Chases Tesla in Batteries for Solar With EnBW Sales Deal
2015-05-29 09:37:49.871 GMT

By Stefan Nicola
(Bloomberg) -- Daimler AG is chasing Tesla Motors Inc. in a
push to sell batteries for storing energy generated in daylight
hours from rooftop solar panels to homeowners and businesses.
The German automaker will sell Mercedes-Benz branded
lithium-ion batteries in a tie-up with utility EnBW Energie
Baden-Wuerttemberg AG from June
, the company said.
The battery technology Daimler uses in its cars “has
proven to work for millions of driven kilometers in the toughest
environments of heat and cold, which makes it the best candidate
also for stationary use,” Harald Kroeger, a Mercedes-Benz
development executive, said in a statement.
The announcement comes on the heels of similar plans by
Tesla, which received more than 40,000 reservations worth about
$800 million in potential sales, in the first week of offering
its battery. The market is growing along with the need to store
renewable energy to use it when the wind isn’t blowing and the
sun isn’t shining. Germany is the biggest economy to rely so
heavily on renewables.
Daimler will start sales at “competitive” prices at next
month’s
Intersolar trade fair in Munich, Madeleine Herdlitschka,
a spokeswoman, said Friday by phone. “We have been working on
this product for quite some time and one large storage unit is
already in successful operation,” she said.
Daimler unit Deutsche Accumotive will produce batteries in
2.5 kilowatt-hour or 5.9 kilowatt-hour versions that can be
linked together. Shipments will begin in October.

This is fantastic and Imlove seeing more and more entrants to,the market, but, where is their factory for batteries?

I like the idea of other automakers entering stationary storage. This gives them a vast market to develop battery capacity and experience in. Then when they become serious about electric vehicles, they will have the battery capability to do so. Also stationary gives makers the opportunity to compete head to head on battery performance and cost. They will want to make a good name for themselves in that space if they want to have credibility as an EV maker.

Technically Tesla's batteries are just Tesla Branded, as they are made by Panasonic... Most likely it is a partnership with one of the other battery companies. Which is why they can only afford to dedicate such small packs.

Tesla's are most certainly their own chemistry and cathode design. They are a custom cell that no one else has. It is just manufactured by Panasonic. It is more like an Apple iPhone, made by Foxconn instead of simply being a 'branded' product.

When will we see the first analyst upgrade because of all the new contracts with utilities around the globe (Australia, Ireland, USA, ...)?

Also, Panasonic is apparently launching their own branded line of stationary storage product in Australia.

Meanwhile, Panasonic, a battery supplier for Powerwall and one of the "big three" lithium ion players alongside Samsung SDI and LG Chem, will launch next week an alliance with Australian electricity retailers targeting home storage.
