Solar Roof, big price increase

Comparable, but at least they reversed course in a couple days.
I'm just waiting for them to pull the same BS on the CyberTruck orders. Hopefully the Rivian and Solar Roof price change fiascos will make that less likely, but demand is so strong for their other models that Tesla could probably get away with it without putting a dent in profits.

Tesla is usually pretty good about holding the price if you change nothing on your order. But, if you change one thing it is a new order at today's pricing.

They have also almost conceded as much. There has been ~20% inflation since they announced pricing, they removed any references to prices in pre-orders, and Elon has discussed the challenges of making it affordable on multiple occasions (i.e. they don't know how they can hit the prices they announced). To me it is just a question of whether they hold the early pre-orders harmless in light of Rivian backlash.

Let's hope that Elon learned from the Rivian Flustercluck and will retain the preorder Cybertruck and Roadster pricing.

"For anyone with a Rivian preorder as of the March 1 pricing announcement, your original configured price will be honored. If you canceled your preorder on or after March 1 and would like to reinstate it, we will restore your original configuration, pricing, and delivery timing. Our team will be sending an email in the next few days with more details."

Inflation is up like 40% on automobiles since Elon broke some cyberwindows. Pretty sure he’s not honoring the old pricing suggestions.

Nonsense, Tesla should honor their price commitment for the same reason that Rivian did.

Hate to break it to you, Tesla is a big mega corp now and doesn’t give a crap about someone’s feelings around price unless they get legal action brought against them and Tesla thinks they’ll lose.

You just proved my point. ;)
Tesla will have legal action brought against them just as Rivian (and Tesla Solar) did when they did not honor their reservation price.

Your Cybertruck reservation describes a price to be paid?
Bait and Switch?

Did you read your CT pre-order agreement? It contains language that is not found in the solar roof price/purchase agreements related to the issue discussed in this thread.

any pre-order price provided to you in advance of the Final Price Sheet is only being offered to you as an estimate and is subject to change.

Originally ordered Solar Roof around August 2020. Was hoping to have the project completed before the end of 2020. The project got delayed due to some design changes. Then in April 2021 we were hit by a price increase of over 47%. After sitting around for months declining the offer of a free Powerwall, refusing to pay the extra costs after getting hounded by emails, texts and phone calls - we decided to cancel our project in July 2021. A few months later our project advisor emails asking if we would be willing to proceed with the Solar roof at our original agreed upon contract price (probably due to the whole class action lawsuit fiasco).

We sign a new contract in November 2021 which surprisingly came to be cheaper than our original contract by a few hundred dollars. From there the project moved along quite quickly. It took a month to approve of permits and installation started 2 weeks later in January 2022. It took a few days for a subcontracting roofing company to tear down our existing roof tiles. The Solar Roof was then installed by the Tesla Energy team over a period of 4 days. City final inspection was approved a week ago and the Roof has been turned on and is generating. Still waiting for PTO which our rep is anticipating to be approved before the end of April.

Over this time period we went through about 5 or 6 different project advisors, with the last one being the most helpful. He always responded right away to emails and phone calls. We are happy with the final outcome of our roof but it was quite a frustrating and long process. Located in Southern California.
