All used Tesla vehicles purchased after July 20, 2022, will have Standard Connectivity for the remainder of the eight years from the first day your vehicle was delivered as new by Tesla, or the first day it is put into service (for example used as a demonstrator or service vehicle), whichever comes first. As additional features and services become available in the future, you will have the opportunity to upgrade your connectivity plan.
tl;dr If you bought before July 20, you'd have Standard Connectivity for the lifetime of the vehicle instead.

What vehicles will continue to receive Standard Connectivity at no cost?
All new Tesla vehicles ordered on or before July 20, 2022, will have Standard Connectivity features at no cost for the lifetime of the vehicle (excluding retrofits or upgrades required for any features or services externally supplied to the vehicle – e.g. telecommunications network). As additional features and services become available in the future, you will have the opportunity to upgrade your connectivity plan.

How much do Standard Connectivity and Premium Connectivity cost?
Standard Connectivity is included in your vehicle, at no additional cost, for eight years beginning on the first day your vehicle was delivered as new by Tesla, or the first day it is put into service (for example used as a demonstrator or service vehicle), whichever comes first.

Prior to July 20th, Standard Connectivity was included with all vehicles for the lifetime of the vehicle. After July 20th, it's only included for eight years. That's the change.

After that...

What are the connectivity features that may be limited after Standard Connectivity expires?
Without Standard Connectivity, access to some connectivity features, including those that use cellular data or third-party licenses, may be changed or removed. These Standard Connectivity features that may change currently include maps, navigation, voice commands and more.

Lord Musk giveth and he taketh away. Nickel and diming for that extra penny along with half a steering wheel and no radar. Next he'll lose the ultrasonics and just use the cameras.. well just one front and back - you don't need the rest unless you pay out for FSD which will allow fully autonomous driving by the end of next year (which next year?). Rear seating is an optional extra.

It's frustrating to see this sort of penny pinching in a luxury product and a company that has possibly the largest product margins per vehicle in the whole industry.
I can understand the financial reasons for it (I think Mr Musk hates being in debt and is making a point to have a solvent Tesla), but with the recent price increases it's a bit hard to stomach...

I wonder if the app access would still work without Standard connectivity? I guess we won’t know for sure until 8 years from now unless Tesla comes out with more details as to exactly what features would be limited and what would still work, and what will still work with wifi tethering.

shouldn’t remove it without providing at least one of
- extending data for a monthly/yearly fee eg 4.99 for standard, 9.99 for premium
- guaranteeing premium is available (this may be the only option I guess)
- allowing us to use our own e-sim
- allowing us a more seamless way to use a phone as a hotspot
