They pushed the taper much later. It seems to be a smart move because the fan start was much later. What they lost going from 105 to 100 appears to be worth it because a lot of that was just heat. Just my .02

How can I log these numbers from my Tesla when charging?
 
Why do we expect that the SR+ and LR should charge X% to Y% in the same time? Normally wouldn’t you expect a smaller battery to charge faster?

The simplest explanation: If you have one battery and it takes 5 minutes to charge from X% to Y%, how long will it take to charge two batteries the same amount on two separate chargers? They are already charging each individual cell at the “max” rate they are (currently) comfortable with. If they didn’t care about not damaging your battery, they could charge the SR faster.

“Bigger batteries” on a Tesla just means more small batteries in parallel. Each “brick” is 46 on an LR, 31 on an SR+ IIRC.

As long as the charger has enough power to charge all the batteries in parallel at the same rate, then charging the 46 in parallel on the LR will take the same amount of time as charging the 31 in parallel on the SR. If you max out the charger power then you’ll see the “larger” batteries charge rate slow down*

*slow down in time from X% to Y%, but not in mi/hr ... so maybe it’s not simple :) ... Y% in an LR is more miles than in an SR.

For your expectation to be true, the cells in the smaller battery would see higher charging current than the cells in the larger battery. Does that makes sense? Remember, the cells in each battery pack are identical (just different amounts in parallel), so they should be limited to the same charging current. As such, they should reach "full" at the same time (because the larger pack would have a higher total kWh charging rate due to having more cells).
 
Quick preview of some good supercharging data. Went from 11 to 90% in about 45min, 100kW lasted til 49%.

Sorry. I was bundling in SR+ into SR. So at present we'd likely see the same 100-105kW max charge rate that we see on V2 on V3.
Basically, yes.

Assuming no V2 stall power sharing, all the Model 3 MR and SR/+ cars, with the charging profiles from 2019.20.x, will charge the same on either V2 or V3.

MR limited to 120 kW
SR/+ limited to 100 kW
 
I'll tell ya. It's gonna be the long tail of the 250kW max charge rate that will have me buying a LR. I could get by on the SR+ range just fine if it had the same charging capacity. But that's exactly why it has a faster charge rate, more parallel charging. Suppose that's how the Semi's enormous battery will charge fast too.

The Semi also has a parallel connector, so it's like plugging all 4 car Supercharger V3 plugs into the Semi at the same time.

Your repeated posts in this thread of kWh as a charging rate are absolutely driving me nuts.
Excruciating in a thread about charging rate!!! Like nails on a chalkboard. LOL.

If the ~75 kWh pack can charge at 250 kW, then a ~50 kWh pack should be able to charge at ~167 kW.
Actually, if both packs have the same cooling hardware, then the smaller pack should be able to dissipate heat into said system at a higher relative rate, and if heat is the bottleneck for charging, then the smaller pack should be disproportionately advantaged.

Any thoughts on Tesla increasing the charge rate on the SR Plus? Would be nice to get parity with other cars, even if it won't get as high as 200kw, I think 150kw would be nice.
I can’t think of any technical restriction that would keep the SR/+ at only 100kW. The only motivation I can think of for this restriction is allow them to raise it up to ~167kW at later date as a demand lever to sell more cars.

But then people would buy the SR+ and not the more expensive models. When you can charge that fast the returns on a bigger battery are rapidly diminishing.
