It seems like Elon Musk does "embargoed" press conferences one hour before general public release these days. I think it was a request by press companies, as a favor to them, for their profitability. The idea is that Elon Musk says valuable things in secret to a secret press conference, without any releases, and then only the press companies get to release the information as they see fit, making it necessary for everyone who wants to know what's said to buy their media, giving them profit. A polished doc is released by Tesla at the release time an hour later that everyone can read. Color is given by the press. It's so that the press doesn't bad-mouth him & Tesla as much, by giving them that money, by making them work for it a little. It also helps with S.E.C. regulations regarding who knew what when for insider vs public trading, and other stuff like that, even if it's not always strictly necessary to do it exactly that way.

He's already done this at least a few times with other issues. We've been seeing it quite a bit over at the investment tracking threads.

Many companies hold embargoed press Q&A ahead of announcements. We do it all day long in biotech. Mainly so reporters can get accurate info. Easy to screw up technical reporting
