Better idea would be to allow Tesla Motors to power off motor remotely (without affecting other systems) by police request.

If it was going that fast, then it's not a demo car. They're speed limited. He probably stole a car that was in for service, or about to be delivered.
It was reported that it was stolen from 5800 Centinela, which is a high end residential area with very nice condos etc., and not the Tesla store.
Interesting video of the aftermath:
So the fact still stands. No OWNER ever got killed or seriously injured in a Model S...
I sure hope the would be a way to remotely greatly limit the car power in such situations.
???Though it didn't happen, I wouldn't be disappointed if Teslas only killed thieves in accidents...
I am already aggregated as I know the media will do anything they can to spin this situation in a way that makes Tesla look bad. In any case I hope everyone with the exception of the thief is ok.
If he stole the car at 12:51AM I would think the Service Center would have been closed and unoccupied. If so, how did he get the fob?
Don't think KTLA has been posted yet?

If there isnt now, I bet it gets moved on the software priority list after this.
