I've been waiting on this for a while - ever since the Buccee/Tesla agreement was made public. My parents live in Newnan and I live in Orlando. I also visit Atlanta on business upon occasion. Going to Newnan can get interesting since I prefer taking Hwy 16 through Griffon. I can make it from Cordelle to Newnan, but just barely on 80% SOC - which Cordelle often limits to. Also, Cordelle is about a mile off the Interstate with several lights. Tifton is v2 and Macon is out of the way (and v2). Going from Jasper to Cordelle seems too short a segment - so this looks like the perfect interval. The same for going all the way to Atlanta. McDonough is ok (v3) but no restrooms unless you walk a bit. The traffic getting to the SC can add 10-15 minutes if near rush hour (Atlanta metro). Overall, pretty epic location. I hope it gets done by October (next ATL business trip).
You can override the 80% default by sliding the charge limit after charging starts. It is only a recommendation.

Progress as of yesterday afternoon (Sat, Aug 6th).

Physical work seems to be largely complete (cabinets, pedestals, sign posts, etc).

Thank you Danny. For anyone stopping by this site, please look for the utility transformer and utility meter. Before they go in, you should see a concrete pad with huge conduits coming up out of it. Whatever you see, please report! Thanks.

Chris-

No problem. Wish I could have gotten better pics, but was in a rush (and also had a line of cars behind me).

I'm about 80% sure I saw a concrete pad with the huge conduits coming out of it. I believe on the east side of the overall installation. Could be wrong tho- assessed on the roll!

Well I couldn’t resist it and went by the site today because I happen to be in the general area even though it was a bit of a drive.

There has indeed been progress since the 7/30 photos.
  • The dirt that had been dug up to place the pre-fab units has been returned and smoothed out on the hill behind.
  • It looks like the conduit has been run already based on how conduit is coming up from the ground to boxes on the side of each V3 cabinet.
  • And there up is indeed a cluster of 8 large conduit pipes coming up out of the ground, well to the left (east) of the charger clusters. This must be where the utility transformer will go.
  • However no forms have been placed for a concrete pad yet.
That is an unbelievably busy Buc-ee’s with gas pumps running all the way down the east side, and across the south side of the building. No parking for motorhomes or trucks pulling trailers, so two RVs towing were parked along the construction fence. Noon on Sunday may have been part of it, but OMG!

Photos follow. These were all taken from the east side, so looking west.

Photo 1 is a view looking at the front side of the installation. You can see how the dirt has been smoothed out.

Photo 2 is a wide angle view of the back side of the installation. Here you can see that there are big conduit pipes sticking out of the ground for the utility transformer.

Photo 3 is a closer view of those pipes. There are 8 of them.

Photo 4 is shows conduit pipes going up to the V3 cabinets as well as how the dirt has been filled in along the back of the pre-fab concrete.

I can't believe how fast the construction has been based on the pictures so far. I wish the Buccee's in Daytona Beach and St Augustine would kick things into gear. Stuff seems to just be baking in the sun, I'm sure some parts will need to be replaced at this point.

Fantastic report Audrey, thank you! Looks like I nailed the exact location based on that one early photo :)
You certainly did nail the exact location!

Unfortunately a long row of gas pumps also runs along the south (back) side of the building. The supercharger install is not that far away to the west.

That parking lot was crazy full on a Sunday noon! So many cars/pickups/small RVs with trailers kept driving around and around looking for parking.

Wow!

They’ve completely re-sodded the disturbed soil and removed the construction fence and equipment. The wiring must be complete because I see one empty spool and they’ve removed the rest.

It looks like the parking stripes are done because they line up with the chargers. But they haven’t finished the signage.

Yes, it would be great to see if there is a utility transformer - big mystery.

Oh man, I don’t really have time to swing by again…….

Well, I couldn’t help myself! We swung by the Fort Valley Buc-ee’s site today before heading north. More progress!

The utility transformer is not yet there, nor the concrete platform. An amazing kaleidoscope of wires is coming out of the conduit at the future utility transformer location.

However, we were lucky to catch a horizontal drilling team working on the power feed. They had already drilled horizontally all the way to the southeast corner of the facility, and were in the process of pulling through a huge conduit to bring the power lines to the supercharger location.

I think these photos are fairly self explanatory from the above context. The picture with the stop sign is at the southeast corner, quite far away from where the utility transformer will be placed. Pretty amazing stuff to see in action.

Somehow, unfortunately, the order of those photos above got scrambled after I posted them. Two of the photos are of the southeast corner at one end of the drilling. The others are near the future utility transformer site where they are feeding the huge conduit through what they drilled. One of those photos shows the utility transformer site with respect to the installed chargers which are near the southwest corner.

Not sure if it's relevant to your routing Orlando/Newnan, but I just noticed an Albany GA location under construction. West of Tifton.
