What was the temperature?Well since Beckley wasn’t open I decided to take the plunge and drove from Weston straight to Wytheville. My 75D made it with 42 miles to spare. Not sure if going south is different than heading north with regards to the topography. There was plenty of regen. If you’re heading south and can charge to 250 miles or 400 km’s you’re good to go, just keep the speed down to 65-70 MPH.
The northern part of the route was -10C 14F and Wytheville -4C 25F.What was the temperature?
I’m impressed you did that well and stayed warm.The northern part of the route was -10C 14F and Wytheville -4C 25F.
Last resort, contact the Sheetz location in Beckley and ask if they are up and running. Also, there are 3 Tesla level 2 chargers at Hawks Nest State Park which can be used if they are not open. It’s right near the Town of Tesla in WV.Anyone that frequents this location middle of next week please comment on status? Returning from Florida and remain hopeful we won't have to route through Charleston enroute back to Morgantown.
Really hoping this station gets turned on SOON. March Break trip happening again this year, and we're taking the S85 to Hilton Head Island from Ontario. The segment from Weston to Wytheville is longer than I want to do given variables of temperature, wind and rain.
It looks like a few people have done this drive in S85 and S75 cars going north, and mostly in warmer temperatures. Anyone done it going south in more wintery weather? Looks like the vertical climb is about 1200 feet, so that's probably going to take away only a bit of range.
Erie --> Macedonia --> Cambridge --> Charleston --> Wytheville (465 miles)
I think that may be my new official plan unless Beckley comes online before the trip.
Wow @Darren Schilberg THANK YOU for such an awesome detailed reply. I'm actually looking at the supercharger map now and it seems maybe the best way to go this route is to continue west past Erie all the way to Cleveland.
... skirt around the inside of Buffalo and over to Erie
I guess if Beckley comes online it might save me 20 minutes ... maybe more?
Nice Starbucks by the Charleston WV supercharger. Nice town too - glad we stopped over Christmas on our Toronto trip and saw it.
Read my earlier post on this thread. You will see you can make it without a doubt.Thanks again for the great info, @Darren Schilberg and @1101011.
I'm starting in Port Perry, so just northeast of Toronto. We leave pretty early in the morning and take the express highway 407 all the way to the end, cross the Peace Bridge into the USA, skirt around the inside of Buffalo and over to Erie. From there it was the thought to go down through Pittsburgh and make my way to Wytheville for the night. But now the trip planning seems to suggest the time is almost identical via the I-77 through Charleston, same destination for the night.
It's a pretty long day in the car, but makes for an easy 2nd day to South Carolina.
My thinking is 5:30AM departure and about 6:30PM arrival. Enough time to let the kids have a swim at the hotel pool, have a decent dinner, sleep, and finish the drive the next day feeling refreshed.
