This is probably part of Govt grant used to put charging hub across touristy locations and motorways... chances are both will come thru.

No it doesn’t look like Tesla has received any government funding

Given Tesla has a recent history of placing their New Zealand "coming soon" map pins both in a geographically accurate location, and in places where they have actively started building, it's possible there are signs of physical construction ... if anyone in the region wants to take a look?

Looks to be under construction - 9 stalls!

What's crazy about it? With 13 superchargers in Taupo why not open them up and make some money off other brands?

Not that its open to other vehicles, but the fact that its not the new V4 stall design even though its a brand new site. Means there needs to be "creative" parking or double stall use for vehicles that have the charging connector not in the Tesla position.

Oh, right a typo in your previous post.

Thinking more about it, I doubt they'll see much traffic from other brands anyway, the ~$0.95/kwh price and a bit out of the way. The hyperchargers in the CBD, the Z Tauhara station if you are bypassing Taupo central and the Z Turangi 200kW chargers will get most of the other brand business.
